well assuming you don't have a major biological malfunction, it's because you are complacent
mastery makes men happy. the difficult road to mastery is what teaches us about the value of hard work, and then we become more confident as the process evolves because we can see the developing mastery. facing problems that we have to figure out along the way are the easter eggs of happiness

Ironically, new psychedelic research is showing that this may be the very thing that heals psychological issues on a fundamental level. They are doing a lot of research now on the effects of psilocybin mushrooms and LSD on PTSD. It shows a lot of promise. I also thing mushrooms and other psychedelics, including cannabis, open for people a spiritual window that helps them walk a deeper path. It helps you to come to know things on a deep level, not just "believe" things on a mental level.

I have a few. But my best friend was killed. And 2 more of the guys I spent almost 3 years doing contract work with ended themselves. So a lot of conversations with old teammates are about them, and it makes it worse for me. I have a strong sense of guilt and at times feel cursed. That’s what lead me to my new profession years ago. I figure helping people and trying to contribute to saving lives is my penance. But even that really gets me at times. I believe in God, strongly. And I believe paradise awaits on the other side. Sometimes I want to go so bad it hurts..... but I’m not sure I’ve even punched my ticket. That’s kind of what drives me. I try hard to do good and show kindness to everyone these days. And please believe I stay talking to Jesus. There’s still this sense of doubt though.
I can feel your pain here man. Just always know that life is a totality. Good and bad. Joy and pain. Both are inevitable. There is a deeper reason for human existence than what modern society prioritizes. What we experience on this planet during our lives varies amongst all people but the reason for the experiences is the same. Spiritual evolution. Spirits in the Material World.

About 5 years ago I went thru pure hell. Suffered a major leg injury and it looked as though I would be in a wheel chair for the rest of my life. At the same time the love of my died from pancreatic cancer. The doctor wanted me on anti-depressant, but I refused.
I did a lot of praying and asked for God to give me the strength to overcome the challenges he gave me. It took me a year before I could walk again and eventually my heart healed.
IMO, depression is diagnosed too much and people need to look inward in order to overcome their trials and tribulatios.

I’ve slowly grown more comfortable with weed but in no way am I ready for acid. I just know I would have a really bad trip. The stories my friends tell me about their bad experiences, even if they’ve had dozens of good experiences are enough to make me stay away.

Some hallucinogens work on the ego and open the possibility to things other than yourself. There's a lot of research being done in this area and it's fascinating.

That is the reason that these substances need to be available for medical research. Dr. Rick Strassman in New Mexico administers psychedelics in a clinical setting to treat these people which is where the real benefit to society lies, in my opinion. It is showing a lot of promise in profoundly and permanently removing psychological blocks and issues from people's lives. Probably not something you should do on your own while camping if you do have Bipolar disorder, severe depression etc. because I believe the underlying mental state at which time you take the drug will determine how the "trip" goes.

Which is huge IMO. It changes your perception of how the world works in some ways and opens doors that have been hidden.

i've never done hallucinagens (For reasons kingbob stated earlier) but i am legit intrigued with their potential in my life
i remember mentioning ayahuasca to my sister and one of my closest friends (different incidents) and each was like I WANT TO DO THAT SOME DAY and i was all
i think DMT is the best first step

I was reading about some group in southeast Asia that would combine LSD, heroin, cocaine and xanax into one big cocktail and take a large amount all at one time to purge negative states. That seems a little terrifying.

If you took out the smack or at least subbed it with maybe pure opium i would smash some of that

LSD has been shown as a cure to alcoholism.
It literally makes alcoholics not feel like drinking.
So many benefits waiting to be discovered

MJC,
I meant to post this the other day for your thread but got sidetracked. I think a lot of depression today stems from lack of proper nutrition. The average American's diet is shite and our food isn't as nutritious as it should be. I am speaking from experience from what helped me a lot over the past few years FWIW. I was in a bad place after my dad passed. I improved my diet and exercise and it changed my outlook on things. Overall I am in a much better place.
I have also been pretty anal about taking taking supplements to make up for what I feel I may still be lacking. One supplement I take, and has been shown to help improve depression is acetyl-L-carnitine There are others, but I am using this as a small example of things one can do to help before jumping onto antidepressant meds.
I am all for seeing a Dr and prescription medicine, but I think too many seek help too quickly from unnatural substances. Those things mess with our brain too much IMO and can be dangerous. Something natural like acetyl-L-carnitine, a good diet, exercise, etc is the real way to battle depression for the long term. Prescriptions are often times quick fixes and can put you on a roller coaster. You have to make a complete 180 and change everything. The problem is finding the motivation to do so when you are depressed. That is different for everyone obviously but a good support system helps. I had that in family and friends fortunately. Also having people (family and employees) that rely on me made me push through.
