I myself have episodes here and there but I seem to overcome the ruts a little more easily these days, mostly because of my wife and little girl. But has anyone seen a rise in your social circle or at work. I seem to see more and more lately, and 2 suicides from people I know casually over the past few weeks. One was a 38 year old pharmacist who was single and decent looking according to the ladies. Another was 26 year old female lab tech half way through a BSN program. I know another 3-4 that didn’t surprise anyone, being frequent fliers in our unit. 1 was unsuccessful, and now he’s brain dead and trapped in this purgatory or maybe Hell. But we’re keeping him alive.

Is it worse today than ever, or has it always been this way. It really intrigues me, scares me and bothers me at the same time. I sit for hours wondering why and how.

An older family acquaintance got a bad diagnosis recently. Either cancer or dementia, not sure which. He decided to go out on his own terms, and I respect the hell out of his choice.

Why, if you don't mind me asking?

I think mental illness has always been an issue. Its definitely presenting more now though.

Better yourself no matter how much you hate yourself. If you force yourself to think you’re better than you are, then you were ok become better than you are.

Prescription drugs are a factor. They can work miracles for many, but the exact brand(s) and dosages for individuals can be tricky.

Even if a person finds the perfect combination, it won’t last forever.

It is a combination of social media connection and an ease to life, ISO.

We aren’t a complacent species.

Chaos drives us.

Turmoil and tough times are what we thrive on.

Without them, we become complacent, which leads to depression.

In Scruffy’s opinion, at least.

One of Scruffy’s underlying reasons for this stance is that suicide/depression has largely been a wealth-related issue. There are strong socioeconomic divides.

Hey, MJC, good to see you.

I dealt with clinical depression years ago. I was one of the fortunate ones who had a loved one that recognized the problem and got me help. I was also fortunate in that the medications I was put on worked fairly quickly and I did not have to try too many combinations before they started working. I haven't taken an anti-depressant drug in more than 20 years.

I have had "down" times since, but everybody does. The folks like you and I who can think about the issue are lucky. It's the poor folks who cannot process what is happening and can see no way out that need the help. The problem is, the issue is not always identifiable by friends and loved ones.

I hate depression as much as I hate cancer. They are both killers.

Yes. Lately just don't want to participate in anything. There's more to it but I'm not going in to all that.

I've been dealing with a little bit, but I remind myself that we all die alone either way, so I just keep pushing through, and try to appreciate and enjoy the little things.
