Meteorology is the study of thermodynamics through a different lense.

Will the LSU game move to Missouri?

Better keep it on the coast. A tropical system would play hell on any passing game.

Some trends are starting to emerge from the model data but still too many questions too spend any significant time breaking down the longer range. It is looking more likely that the first system will get pushed SW into the BOC and then something (1st system or a 2nd system) could get lifted north in the longer range. GEFS has been showing this scenario for a couple of days and now the Euro EPS is also showing this potential.

Levi will have a new video later this evening discussing the potential 2 systems.

Nothing like a good ole cool front to keep the tropical moisture away...

91L looking very healthy this morning but it's hard to tell how much of that is driven by a developing LLC and how much of it is just the background flow (trades coming into the WCAB with the wave axis and flow coming down from behind the front).

This is a pretty common genesis pathway for this time of year and at some point the developing LLC will take over from the background flow. Levi's video from last night went into this setup in more detail for anyone interested.

The Euro and GFS are in pretty good agreement that we will need to watch the BOC over the next week to 10 days as either this system or a new system could potentially be pulled north towards the US.

The hurricane models are pretty aggressive with this system while the Euro keeps it weak and into the Yucatan. At 90hrs the 06z Euro has this over Northern Guatemala while the HWRF has it out over the Gulf. A stronger system will get farther NE before drifting back SW. Interesting to see what the NHC thinks will happen.

How many of y'all can still recite the Greek alphabet you learned as a pledge? I confess I can't any more.

No it does. maybe not exactly like in regular thermo but entropy is definitely a thing in meteorology. Remember a couple sections dealing with it while I was getting my degree.

It's the same as any other field where you apply thermo. Can't really measure it directly and it's not all that useful in practice. It's cooked into a lot, like the clapeyron and cc equation but you don't need to use it directly.

You do have isentropic lift but practically you're just keeping some constant form of temperature level.

Useful conceptually but you don't really use it directly much unless you're doing some very high level modeling or something.

Tru. I just remember getting raped by a question dealing with entropy in one my courses. Its crazy how fast this stuff is escaping me now that I dont use it much
