My last house was a DSLD house. We knew we would be buying land and building custom in a few years so I wasn’t expecting much. I learned a lot about building by following the building of my DSLD house. They don’t cut corners, they’re just not custom homes. They save by painting the whole interior of the house one color, using the same tile and countertops throughout and by not having any waste. The lumber from my DSLD house came from the same place the lumber for my new house came from.

They definitely have to build to code, and install hurricane clips and all that.

We live in a custom home in a 50% DSLD neighborhood. All the bones are the same. DSLD cuts corners in paint, cabinets, tile, showers and tubs. That's it. I would buy a DSLD in a heartbeat.
