Stout on a different note. I remember you were waiting on AT&T to install in a few weeks.
I was scheduled for 10-28, but got a text and then call from the tech saying he’ll be there at noon today. I hope the same for you buddy. We need anything positive at this point.

so what is that plane actually doing? sampling the trough?
Cloud seeding.
The GWB weather machine in full force.
Just kidding...probably sampling the upper level winds.

When Cantrell has a press conference is there a need for a translator?
Posted on 10/7/20 at 11:51 am to LSUWoodworker
Don't even listen to it. Nothing will come out of her pressers.
Nola.com will give a headline, but usually her statements and decisions cause more questions than answers.
She governs by social media, so just follow that.

Morning run of the GFS remained consistent in showing a landfall for #Delta near/just west of Vermilion Bay and tracking inland across Acadiana. You can see how a track like that brings significant winds into metro Baton Rouge. These are peak gusts.

Strong, well-developed convection (storms) around the center of rotation. Generally, the stronger the storms the higher the cloud tops, and the higher the cloud tops, the colder they are.
Thanks!
So are the temperatures just an indicator of strong convection, or does a bigger temperature gradient actually drive the storms?
I know high water temps feed energy into the storm, but do cold cloud tops give the energy some place to go that drives low pressure eyes and high circulating winds? Or am I just trying to tie too many things together in my head?

You're seeing some upper level divergence. You're #2 is in the right entrance of a jet on the east coast. It's an area where you get rising air. That's not a weakness it can get to, as that ridge to it's west is going to be building and pushing it WNW.
The #1 is where it's going.
I knew you would provide the proper meteorological description.

Forgive my ignorance. Are you saying that it's going to shift West and come in just West of the LA/TX state line?
The weakness that will ultimately allow the northern turn is between the LP trough to the west and the HP Rige to the east. The ridge to the east is the driving force for the westward shifts we've seen. However, the trough to the west has set a boundary that limits that western shift. Hurricanes are weak in terms of influence by other steering factors. They usually turn around ridges, especially when coupled with other steering forces like the trough. The flow of the HP Ridge to the east works to influence the eventual turn of the system.

Why is tweeting about the gfs run from 6 hours ago when they had another run 20 minutes ago that shifted way west?

HMON and HWRF 12z are East of the NHC track.
Not by much, but they are predicting landfall east of white lake. They also have the storm slowed up by a few hours which I believe is allowing the Texas trough to push things a little more East.
