Good work by the ground crew. The captain looks annoyed, the first officer looks like he is laughing.

Lithium batteries have lots of points of instability. Too much charge, not charged enough, charged too fast and discharged too fast all can be fire hazards. These points are usually controlled by electronics, but they do fail on occasion.

So what about putting them in your checked baggage can make them unstable?

I don't think it's about the cargo hold making it blow up, it's about the best way to contain the fire should it explode.

My guess is nothing more than usual. It's just a far less bigger deal when they burn a hole in a desk than a plane.

Dumb question: how the hell do I know if my decide has a lithium ion battery? I very often will check my laptop.

What about beard trimmers and electric razors?

How do we know it wasn't the Sweaty Betty T-Shirt that started this fire instead of blaming the innocent Lithium Battery?

Sweet stock quotes.

If they are going to explode if its in the cabin you can put out the fire before it ever starts. If you get airborne you need Steven Seagal to give his life by flying a nighthawk up to the plane to put out the fire.

Phones, tablets, laptops, even your vape, bruh, are fine in the pressurized cabin. It's because the batteries can explode. If they're in the cargo hold and no one knows it exploded, it can be dangerous.

The cargo hold was at regular pressure as well, since the plane hadn't taken off yet. So I don't think pressure had anything to do with this thing going off. I've seen videos of vape pens just going crazy in people's pants. It seems to just randomly happen. I think the point is that if it's in the main cabin, it can be pretty quickly dealt with.

It’s a nice touch putting the stock quotes in the article.

I wonder if they would have done that had the plane crashed. Delta Air Lines DAL -15.5% suffered a plane crash today.

I like how he runs outside instead of in the direction of the water bottle aisle. Guess he was going to put it out by dousing himself in gasoline.

I said pressurized cabin just to differentiate the cabin and cargo hold.

This is the point I was making.
