Why does anyone pay for delivery?

Never had a long Monday after a Sunday of dipping into too much whiskey cause your team decided to shite the bed in epic fashion, and you don't feel like cooking or getting back out? A joint, the couch, Netflix, and a hot greasy pizza is the cure I needed today.

Delivery and tip turns an $8 Jimmy John's sandwich into a $16 sandwich.

I go get them myself. Usually quicker anyway.

That's what I ended up doing.

That’s part of it I’m sure. They want to price out people who aren’t sure if they really want delivery or not. If it was super cheap, everyone would do it every time

NOLA: is Mama Rosa's still on Rampart and do they still do their deliveries by bicycle?

Reading this, the manpowered , don't need a parking space, or collision insurance, etc. makes even more sense.

Stop being lazy and drive the 4 mile round trip and pick it up?

In my recent experience this also saves an hour because they can't keep drivers on staff. And yes they cooked your pizza more than an hour before you got it and they don't give a shite. And you tipped them for the privilege.

It’s for the drivers inflated wage and mileage allowance they have to pay.

My local pizza hut is 2 miles from my house and they were wanting to charge me a $4.50 delivery fee on a $15 order. I still don't even know what this fee is for since it doesn't go to the driver. Seems excessive to me.

Don’t forget the tip!

That adds another 1-4 dollars depending on how cheap you are.

So the best course of action is to get your lazy arse out of the house and pick it up yourself.

That is why I don’t do Instacart. For one they jack up the prices, then charge a delivery fee, and then add your tip.

By the time I add all the stuff to a hundred dollar grocery order, I just assume get it myself, and fight the welfare queens at the grocery store. Now Rouses and Walmart do not add fees for in store pick up, and do not increase the price from what is listed at the store. Rouses used to depend on Instacart which had its own price list, but they recently launched their own app without the inflated prices. From what I heard they still use Instacart or one of the other services to make the actual deliveries.

I placed a door dash order this weekend and the fees were too much, so just drove to pick it up. This isn’t the first time I’ve opted out of delivery. I’ll pay for convenience, but geez…

$4.99 delivery
15% service fee
Dasher Tip on top of that…

A $40 food order becomes $58.99, not including tax.

Why does anyone pay for delivery? It's not going to be at your house any faster than if you get it yourself. Unless there's some crazy reason you just can't leave your house? Makes no sense to pay and tip someone else.

You can’t think of any reasons?

The decade pizza delivery started?

Early 90s I ordered some delivery and the guy was pissed when I payed him rolls of pennies. Left him a decent tip too so I don't know what his fricking deal was.
