I got several tanks propane and some mr. buddy heaters just in case with some filters. I should be good for awhile.
Sure wish the gas company would've ran gas to my house as requested by now. Would've been nice to use it in this storm.
Are mr buddy heaters safer for indoor use? I assume they're fine as long as you have a little ventilation? I have a perfect spot where I can run a line outside to the propane tank.

When we get a big snow it always hangs around in the mountain shadows long past its welcome.
The old folks would say it is hanging around waiting on another one.

They have some sort of oxygen sensor in them that will shut them off supposedly. I'll still have a CO monitor though.

Should this rascal unfold as suggested - ain't no one going anywhere for a handful of days...the day of can be tolerable when out and about, after that it is all about the thaw

Imagine a bunch of south Louisiana folks driving around when the snow starts flying and the lines on the road disappear. Fun times.

In north Texas. I just use the Styrofoam covers on the outside and open sinks in kitchen, bathrooms and laundry room ...

With all the people who have recently moved to Denver, it’s about the same here. We got 4-6” overnight and heading to the airport was like dodgeball with cars.
Glad we’re going to SLC to ski this weekend, it’s gonna be -8 all day tomorrow at the house. No thanks

I just finished insulating what I could under my old pier and beam house. Some of the pipe is buried so that’ll act as some insulation-I think. I also lined every side with tin to block the cold winds. Since it’s all enclosed now, running my heater should supply minimal escaping heat below? Right?

My entire house is heated with ventless propane heaters all winter. I'm sure you'll be fine. Just don't put your mr buddy in a small sealed off room.
Where I live is so rural that non electric heat or a generator is essential. I heated with wood my whole life but I'm too old to be cutting my own wood anymore and switched to gas. Our two story house is heated all winter for 250 bucks in propane. It's amazing how much cheaper it is.

In places the LA DOTD is so bad you can’t see the lines on a normal day.

Sounds like it.
Are you able to run a light[s] - old bulbs - near the more exposed points? The extra bit of heat may help. Just a notion

Isn’t the issue not so much the heater but the bottle of propane in the house? Not saying you have that setup, but I assume people will try to do that.

What's wrong with the bottle of propane in the house?

Going to put plywood on my windows to help with home insulation as well.

I wouldn't be concerned with the little green bottles. Out of caution I wouldn't have a 20 pound tank in the house.
When I disconnect the little bottles I always listen to the valve. They are known to leak when you disconnect them

I don't see any issue as long as you are sure your connections are sealed and not leaking any propane into your house.
But it's not ideal. Some things you need to do in an emergency. Just be extra careful. Hit the connections with some soapy water and make sure you don't see bubbles.
A 20lb propane tank is one hell of a bomb. A pilot light or any other source of ignition would be a big problem if you had a leak. A candle, anything really.

For anyone worried about not wrapping pipes enough, I highly advise this pipe heating cable. In the industry we call this “electric heat tracing.”

Crazy that it’s almost 80 outside right now

It’s the calm before the storm. Something ominous and beastly is on the horizon.
