Stupid question so roast away
The styrofoam covers for outdoor spigots. Should you put an old shirt or rag inside for further insulation or just put it on and tighten as is?

I stuff them with newspaper but I think even that is overkill.

I usually just leave them dripping then put the styrofoam cover on.

Im not sure if anyone posted the KLIX 3am writeup on here regarding accumulations:
quote:
Confidence is now high enough that we have issued a winter storm watch with accumulations anywhere from 3 to 8 inches for much of the area Tuesday. It would not surprise me to see a few snow bursts cause around 12" accumulations, but this should be isolated in areas north of the interstate 10/12 corridor.

I think that map is showing temperature below normal.

The main water line coming into my house rises up out of the ground and makes a 90 into the side of the house with copper pipe, i have foam insulation taped up around it and it has been in the mid 20s for a full day with temps dropping down to 14 and it didn't freeze or burst

I usually put an old plastic grocery bag or something similar over the rag to keep it dry and then the cover in case the cover comes off but it's very subjective from person to person.
Mine - pool noodle + rag + grocery bag + cover. (is it necessary? Probably not)

Mine’s all pex so it’s probably overkill but I’ll have to work and won’t be back to check on things until the roads are somewhat passable Tuesday afternoon/evening so just trying to plan ahead

Yeah my buddy in Haskell Ark got 8" of snow last weekend ; showed pics of snow still in shaded areas! CRAZY!
We had a little over a foot here. The north sides of the mountains never get sun so they are still white with about 4 inches a week later. When we get a big snow it always hangs around in the mountain shadows long past its welcome. It's survived several 60 degree days now lol
