Death at Plaza Tower

Some teens from Belle Chasse were exploring the abandoned Plaza Tower building in New Orleans. The guard rails are no longer on the stairs and a 17 year old kid fell to his death.
Darwin at its finest.

Damn, that really sucks for the kid and his family. I loved doing wild shite like that was I was that age. Jimmy Swaggert abandoned dorms, catwalk under the new bridge, the Hilton downtown when it was still abandoned. Sucks that he had yo pay the price that were all willing to risk when we’re young and dumb

Will this be the final straw that allows a takeover and demolition?
No...no it will not.

My buddies and I did this a handful of times in the late 80s. Ah, youth…

The amount of asbestos inside makes demolition cost significantly more than the property. That building isn’t going anywhere.

Pretty sure that was mitigated years ago

That's harsh. But I'll admit that even a triple-dog dare ain't getting me past the third floor, at any age.

How long until the parents Get Gordon so they can sue the owner of the tower?

In the article says they were drinking. I did stupid shite in my youth but knew my limits. You don't climb stairs with no guard rails while drinking.

Got some pictures of the building?

At this point if you implode the building, whether it is asbestos or all the mold that had accumulated in there, any implosion would be like a biological attack on the city.

You can search on YouTube and find whole videos.
Came across a Instagram account a few weeks back with a couple recording themselves fricking all around the building. Including the rooftop

I don't know how to post pics. Its an absolute eyesore. I think they hung a huge banner on it for the Superbowl.

My cousin's ex husband used to steal bowling balls from Don Carter's and would bowl them out the car door when they went across the New Bridge
Quite a few bowling balls were found on the side of I-10 in Port Allen

Always thought it would be a cool apartment building.

It was supposed to be low income housing at one point

They should’ve let it burn down when it was on fire a few years ago.

the building has already been abated. The reason it hasn’t been demolished is the cost of doing that in the middle of the CBD. And the owner is dead (building is in trust)

It really isn’t in the middle of the CBD, it’s on the outskirts When they built it in the early 60’s, they originally thought more building would take root in that Howard Ave corridor, but it actually took place along Poydras.
