What's wilder is that you stay in a modern hotel like 8ft away from the Alamo.

Can't really disagree with any of that. Its the most interesting city in America, warts and all. I've been fascinated with New Orleans since I was about 16 or 17 years old. We went a couple of weekends ago for jazz fest like we do every year, and it was pretty much the most fun weekend ever, like it is every year.

I always chuckle at people that view themselves as worldly because they moved from Louisiana to Alabama, Mississippi, or Arkansas.
Is that really what you took from that goofy shite? You think the OP was trying to prove himself "worldly"?
You have some of the weirdest takes ever.

know how much this place hates it.
It’s my fav city in the world (warts and all)! And I travel the world.
The riff raff is like a filter of the soul-less and lost. For that I am thankful.
However, the hate sourced by the ineptitude that runs the city, that crushes Nola’s potential, is warranted.
Here, the hate overwhelmingly comes from soul-less voices so take it with a grain of beignets.

Here’s your pretentious New Orleans WASP guy starter kit

Yeah that was funny. I have traveled pretty extensively but only lived in New Orleans, Georgia, and Alabama. If anything, I'm saying that I am not worldly because of living in Birmingham and miss the cultural identity that comes from the "worldly" city of New Orleans.
And to those saying other cities compare just as well to New Orleans, they don't. New York and maybe L.A. Some of Chicago. But most others are pretty sterile when it comes to a distinct cultural presence.

Have you traveled outside of the US?

Many times.
So New Orleans isn't the GREATEST city in the world? It's certainly got more character and culture than any other American city.

New Orleans is a wonderful city to visit, easily one of the most enjoyable in the US.
New Orleans is slightly above hell as a place to live permanently.

I meant to type ...that you can stay...."you" being the masses.
I did go to public school though so these letters trip me up sometimes. And I was too lazy to edit it.

I enjoyed my four year stint in New Orleans in dental school. But I will also say that happiness is seeing New Orleans slowly fade out of sight in your rear view mirror.

I have a time share in Pigeon Forge and have panned for gold in Dahlonega many times. I’m more travelled than 90% of this country.

I’ll take it!

We go over for day trips pretty often. And as you describe, I enjoy the fun and oddness of it, you feel like you’re doing something cool and being somewhere old, different and even strange.

I’m just asking what international cities you’re comparing it to?
