Ultimately it’s the intent that really matters here, not the OK symbol. Did he intend to convey a racist message? If the answer is no, there should be no problems here.

For someone lamenting the loss of nuance, you seem to miss that an analogue to hit Hitler loving dogs isn’t what’s in the OP. It would be trying to cancel Taco Bell because a white supremacist ate there.
