I consider people who are scared of an inanimate object to be nutty. I also have an uzi and a couple mp5s. I have zero need for them. But they’re fun to shoot, I have the disposable income, and I wanted them.

Haven't read any of this thread except the first page, so I am way behind.

I will say that two shootings in 24 hours is pretty cray. Both done by 20 something white boys. It seems the Dayton shooter was just flat out nuts because he killed his sister before going on the rampage. His doesn't seem racially motivated as he attacked a country/western bar. Does anyone remember that other bar shooting a while back where a guy attacked a country/western bar? He was also wearing body armor (but used a pistol I think).

So we have two white boys in early 20's killing almost 30 people (and injuring dozens of others) in 24 hours with AR's and AK's. The only difference is that the Dayton shooter did not seem racially motivated.

This is a sick epidemic that must stop. It is clear to me that this is more of a underground movement of psycho 20 somethings who feed off each other. It is in a way very similar to lone wolf Muslim terrorism. The Muslims feed off other Muslim terrorists even though they may not be personally connected. The Muslims share the same ideology of America hating, anti-semitism, anti-christian, etc. The white shooters have their own ideologies: some are just incels like the Dayton shooter who really don't have an ideology other than hating life while others like the El Paso shooter are white nationalists (and also incels at the same time usually). They are actually very similar to the Muslims and even share some of the same ideology.

What sucks is they make the rest of us who want a wall look bad. It's going to be impossible now to argue for a reduction in immigration thanks to these fricking dipshits. And the Dems are certainly going to use this to their advantage to repeal the 2nd and put restrictions on the 1st.

What’s sad is when shite like this happens people on both sides of the political spectrum care more about what the shooter’s beliefs are and the color of his skin so they can go on the internet and attack people who belong or supposedly belong to the same political party as the murderer.

I think you shouldn't even participate in the discussion if you're not even going to try to convince people of your perspective. Certainly insulting them will help.

Referencing the damage done by bombs does not make the damage done by these killers and their weapons any less troublesome. It is just a poor logical distraction away from what is actually being discussed here.

And lots of things might be “fun.” I own guns. I have been a fun instructor in my lifetime. But something being “fun” doesn’t make It necessary at all. I would find It fun to shoot a rocket launcher or drive a tank down the freeway... but I am not allowed to.

It would be great if there could be real research and cost-benefit research done in to this issue. The NRA has actually lobbied for funding blocks though at the national level making such research and facts hard to come by. (Hence why all the internet trolls so quickly find fodder and just make ridiculous anecdotal claims or y’all a out hog invasions.)

It would be much better to all take our emotions out of this a little and really think about what our country could do better to help keep everyone safe. We can start by not demonizing our fellow Americans every time we talk about walls or immigration. We need to start humanizing each other in politics. The shooter yesterday drove ten hours from Plano just to target Hispanics. His white supremacist manifesto was awful.

There is a problem. And all y’all in this burning building pretending everything is fine and we all need assault rifles and a man to protect America from foreigners look silly. America is at risk and It is from people we created ourselves. :(
