Well, that was it. He asked for my blessing and I said yes. I know she will be on cloud 9.

He’s a great young man. They both have solid careers up in Virginia. They are much better off than alajones2 and I were when we got married at 20.

Going to go drink scotch and have a cigar now.

We had dated for over 4 years and he and the MIL loved me, but I still should have done it.

I never asked mine although he and my wife weren't really all that close but never gave it a second thought. I told her mom though.

. Treat her mother like you would want your daughter to be treated.

Call her boyfriends by the wrong name. Preferably the previous one.

Oh shite! I’m shedding a tear for you! I have a 17 yo daughter and it pains me deeply that one day she won’t be my little girl anymore! Add that to my 8 yo daughter and my 2 yo daughter and I’m in for a long line of struggles!!

I regret to this day never formally asking my FIL.

I'm so happy to know I'm not the only one. I strongly regret not formally asking my FIL (probably why he taught my kid how to ride a bike before I did ). I did ask my MIL for the diamond that was passed down to every other granddaughter in the family since it was my wife's turn, though. She was more than happy to provide it and obviously told my FIL but still, I have always regretted not asking him formally. Now that I have a daughter of my own, I understand how shitty it was of me to not formally ask him.
