I am surprised no one has pointed out failure to report an auto accident in LA with more than $500 in PD is a crime.

$499 for PD. The rest is for pain and suffering.

How do you assess PD cost on the spot anyway?

You didn't read the statute by admitting there was any injury involved you trigger the statute.

It would be up to the state to prove you knew or should have known the damage exceeded $500. In today's world, a scratch that requires paint (won't buff out) will run over $500 for a proper repair. Keep in mind the mixing of paint and cleaning the guns after spraying and blending color and spraying clear coat is not much different from doing those for a full panel respray at least if done professionally.

Oddly enough, any discussion of not calling the police between the two parties would likely meet the definition of conspiracy. This is very unlikely to be charged and the failure to report is a very minor crime but there are a lot of potential unintended consequences for not handling this as the law requires. You also potentially are in breach of you car insurance policy for not getting a police report, but certainly are if you do not report it to them, as reporting to your insurer is almost always required.

Okay my daughter just hit someone with minor damage but to fix their vehicle it would I’m guessing cost more than $1500. The car she hit has previous damage all over and tbey seem to be fine with 1500 cash. If we give them the money am I free and clear or can it bite me in the arse?

Your daughter is a ditz who has no business being on the road. Take away her car.

Oh, and pics?

Pay a lawyer a few bucks to write up a proper release for them to sign. Going el cheapo now could bite you in the arse later.

It's a reference from Suite Life of Zack and Cody. The PRNDL

It sounds like your daughter did some pretty significant damage to this car. Unfortunately, I would bite the bullet and go through your insurance since your agent was already there. Your daughter needs to be more careful and I hope this is a learning experience for her. shite happens.

+1000 on release. I would definitely make sure you’re protected on the bodily issues.

Hello. This is not Gordon McKernan. Please DM me all relevant information about the accident and all parties involved and I will take care of it from here. Thanks.

Speaking from experience just having them sign something doesn’t prevent them from still suing you later down the line.

I paid some guy $200 because I just barely tapped him. Like not even a scratch or rub on the car. Nothing but I didn’t want any BS and the guy was white so I offered the quick settlement in hopes nothing came of it. Started off at $20 for a car wash and he finally took $200. Oh well.

Better than reporting it to insurance.

In your case you better get a release before you hand over the $.

What on earth does the person's race have to do with anything??? I swear y'all are something else....

Tell the guy $500 but I want a release today. No cops.

So you lowballed the white dude because he was white. NICE.

Most likely had he been black he'd have wanted to avoid the police cause eerybody knows eery black man in America is a criminal so you could have really low balled him had he been black....offer him $5 or something and he'd have been good to go....

Do people really go through life with this kind of mental baggage???? It has to be exhausting....

Tell them you need a copy of their insurance, if they can't provide it tell them f off.

If they are diving a piece of crap good chance it's not legal, which means they don't want no smoke from the police.
