quote:

We are people of brotherhood, people of blood, people who know themselves to be Somalis, to be Muslims … We are a gifted set of individuals with a patriotic spirit that acknowledges our homeland and strives to protect it,” Omar said, according to my AI translator.

We understand that Somalia’s unity and identity are tied to its people, but our homeland is under threat, and we are scrambling to claim territories we no longer possess,” she added. “Somalia belongs to Somalis—it is unified, and we are all brothers.”

quote:

Ilhan's also forgotten the Naturalization Oath of Allegiance she took in 2000, which starts, “I hereby declare, on oath, that I absolutely and entirely renounce and abjure all allegiance and fidelity to any foreign prince, potentate, state, or sovereignty, of whom or which I have heretofore been a subject or citizen.

The part where she says "Somalia belongs to Somalis" without an ounce of self awareness for what she supports on our country's border is incredibly telling.

You won't see me defending Somalians here. Most acknowledge that they are rude and loathsome people.

But to use that as that as your swaying point against the city is asinine, considering the statistical likelihood of it affecting your life here is very tiny. Especially when Minneapolis is at the top of many metrics as far as places to live.

For someone coming from BR, or anywhere in LA for that matter, using Somalis and crime as the determining factor against moving here is absurd.

As others have said, she needs to determine if she can handle the winters more than anything.

My cousin lives there for a couple of years. He did not like being in Little Mogadishu. The city has been overrun by Somalis and is extremely leftist politically.

Minneapolis is far nicer (cleaner, safer, wealthier) than most cities in the South

No way man, Baton Rouge is the model city we should all be chasing after.

I spent two weeks there in January a while back It was cold as hell. Windy. The new was kinda fun for a bit, but eventually I hated it.

Never. Never. Never.

They elected one to the Congress of the United States, so I'd say it's affecting people's lives in Minnesota as well as the rest of the country.

Remember her famous quote: "we don't need to defund the police, we need to dismantle it"? How'd that go for law abiding citizens in the Twin Cities? And she didn't get close to what she really wanted.

Was up there last year on business and had a nice time. I'm not sure what all these folks are talking about with the Somalis or whatever...it wasn't something I noticed.

The St. Paul side got a bit sketch late...a lot of homeless, though they weren't near bars/restaurants.

low taxes

Mississippi has a ridiculous tax on groceries....causing MS to have the highest groceries in America. Minnesota does not tax clothes or groceries.

Also no venomous snakes or spiders in Minnesota.

big whitetails

I've killed countless big whitetails in MS. I have 2 mounted that scored over 130. I haven't shot one in 12 years because the juice isn't worth the squeeze anymore. I still have food plots but I only feed them and watch them on trail cams now. Most Mississippians will be shocked to hear this, but there is more to life than duck and deer hunting.

Snow storms are a lot of fun if you have a capable 4x4 vehicle and snow boots. Keeps shite interesting. I'll say I never got bored when I lived there. Always had something to do. Here is MS nobody gets excited about anything except Football, and that is a short time of the year. Don't get me wrong I love Football, but its one of the few things here that make me happy. Everyone I grew up with in MS has transformed into the most boring and selfish bunch of people that I have ever encountered.

Minnesota has a very high total tax burden. Most of it likely driven by property taxes which would also factor into rent prices.

The Midwest is arguably more red feeling outside of the cities than the south, it just has large cities that are very blue.

Young people should be moving to chase great job offers and pay. Get as far ahead as possible. But make sure it’s to a launching pad and not to a sink hole career wise as much as possible

I didnt either, I did see a large population of them when someone convinced us to go to the Mall of America...but I just assumed that is what all malls look like.

But screw that cold and all the mess that goes along with it.

you can live something pretty close to a rural ms lifestyle in rural mn and most things will be better (except the weather). you just have to pick up ice fishing or snowmobiling in the winter.

I went there probably 7ish years ago, the Uptown/Lake Calhoun area is really nice (I'm pretty sure it's no longer called Lake Calhoun anymore). The only time that I ever experienced the Somalis was on public transit, and yes they were gross.

We have a friend who is from Lafayette and married a guy from up there, they now live in a suburb of Minneapolis and really enjoy it out there.

ETA: I will say that the downtown area, outside of the North Loop was pretty gross. We randomly saw Charlie Sheen outside of a strip club downtown
