Law enforcement exemption, they also can get exemptions for their personal vehicles even though they do not use them for work purposes. The only other exemption is medical.
(This is the case for Louisiana)

I agree 100% look I don't need 5% like the cops and dealers have. Just let me have 20-30% on the frontsc without a ticket and I'm happy.

Yes Harahan and Kenner often did this Or they would just put one big scratch on the driver window. Then we would go get that one window retinted.

The cops know who's driving a cruiser - another cop.
Explain why I'm allowed to have my rear windows as dark as I want, then. Isn't that unsafe? I could have someone riding in the back he can't see. The whole notion is absurd.
Also, if my tint is so dark, he can instruct me to roll my window down prior to him approaching my vehicle.

I’m of the opinion it’s all or none. Why the frick can cops have tint but the average Joe can’t?

Come to Texas, where everything is better than LA, it's allowed here. The heat transmission drop from a front screen tint is amazing.

.... and you probably would listen and roll the window down. A criminal, with an AK-47 in his lap and nothing to lose, is a different story.

You're making my point for me. It does not make a bit of difference if the windows are dark or not.

The LA Sheriffs' Assoc. and the State Police Union are strong in this state. They got the legislature to approve it.

To play devil's advocate:
-any cops that could explain the difference, if any, in protocol for these situations?? I really have no clue here would be curious though
-are there places for the cop to hide? A bush etc. Vs. being on a wide open road with other traffic potentially
-can they look in via windows instead of the door?
-is the car itself being considered? As in, a house won't crank up and run you over the way a car will

Welcome to the trailer park?
I’m a firm believer in the broken windows theory of crime. Buckle down on littering and speeding and other petty offenses and the real problems fix themselves as the scum is no longer comfortable doing scum thing.

This.
Personally, my biggest gripe (GA) is that you can only legally tint the top 3 inches of the windshield, so technically the 70% ceramic I have on our cars can get us ticketed even though you can easily see through it from the outside at night.
We’re legal on the sides and back. Don’t really care about “a look”, I’m just trying to keep the sun out.

Same way in AZ...
Cops are getting shot all the time because of the dark tint.
And of course, by "all the time" , I mean "never".

It's just a collect and serve tactic.

Because it’s not really about “safety”
As a pedestrian I like being able to see what a driver is looking at and if they see me. Applies to any car, including cop cars.

I have very light mirror tint on my windshield. Helps with ridiculous headlights and Summer heat.
Hasn't ever been a safety issue for me.

5% on all windows and 20% completely down my windshiel
That's absurd

That is hard to see at night.
ETA:
Not the 5% side windows, but the windshield.

Oh they were the worst. Then they would always do a half assed job of getting the old sticker off and take their damn time. So much better in kenner now that you just go to a gas station for the tags.
