Didn't see a thread on this already.

Body Cam Video

Article

quote:

At the time, Timpa called 911 for help saying he was a schizophrenic, was off his prescriptions, and that he had taken cocaine.

In the video, which was obtained by WFAA Thursday night, you can hear an unarmed Timpa saying, "you're going to kill me!" to Dallas officers who respond to his call for help.

In the video, Timpa is hysterical. He's already been handcuffed by security guards from a nearby store and after rolling around on the ground--he's quickly restrained.

As he's restrained, officers replace the security guard's handcuffs with some belonging to an officer.

Timpa's feet are also tied together.

For around 14 minutes, he's restrained by officers with their hands, and with their knees in the scapula area of Timpa's back.

Timpa continues to cry for help saying that he's going to die. His face is buried into the ground, and his speech eventually becomes garbled.

In the background, officers can be heard laughing.

Eventually, Timpa falls unconscious.

Pretty hard to watch and tragic.

Tragic. Dude didn't have to kill himself with cocaine.

Police officers can be heard mocking him as he struggled, with one comparing him to a "roly-poly."

As he becomes quiet and unresponsive, an officer says he's "out cold" and others joke that he's fallen asleep.

"It's time for school, wake up!" one person says. "I don't want to go to school! Five more minutes, mom!" another chimes in. 'Today we can't breathe.'

Paramedics then give him a sedative and his body is transferred onto a gurney and into an ambulance. “I hope I didn’t kill him,” one officer says, as others continue to laugh

DA said 3 of them would not be charged a while back. Victim’s family is suing the city of Dallas. This is how the video came out

Bruh, that video is bias as hell. Why do they keep cutting it off? Tragic certainly but this guy most likely didn't stop moving enough to warrant them to let him go.

There's a reason they gave him a sedative. Most people that get arrested aren't given a sedative.

Wow. That looks awful for those cops. Especially with them laughing and joking the whole time while killing him.

fricked up to say, but thankfully he wasn't black.

Those cops fricked up, but this is a way more nuanced situation than all the unjustified shootings.

I can go either way on this one, honestly. If these cops catered to everything every crazy person told them, they'd probably be completely dysfunctional.

Are the medics supposed to check some sort of vitals before shooting someone up with a sedative?

Well they wouldn’t give a sedative to a dead guy so he was alive when the medics took him...

Cops didn’t kill him, his drug cocktail did.

They murdered someone on video while laughing. Let them rot.

Yeah, and those medics weren't really in much of a hurry once they noticed he wasn't breathing.

I know. I still find it tragic, especially since he tried to get help after realizing something was wrong. I don't really know how police are supposed to handle situations like this. Hindsight's 20/20 of course, but did they make some pretty big mistakes? Should their be training to better handle crazy people on drugs?

It's clear they weren't trying to hurt the guy. It sounded like he was rolling around and they were afraid he was going to kill himself by stumbling into traffic or something. I really don't know what to think.

If you encountered insane dregs of society all day, you'd be doing the same thing. Hell, everyone would.

The medical examiner said Timpa died from sudden cardiac arrest due to “the toxic effects of cocaine and the stress associated with physical restraint.”

You're not wrong, I'm just saying it's a bad look regardless.

Rational people will say what you just said and be correct, but you and I both know the rational people aren't the ones who scream the loudest.

Similar to the education system, we all want better out of police, but nobody wants to pay for it.

Can’t pay people $35k and expect them to be competent AND professional AND expect them to care all the time. Sure, there will be outliers but on the average, you are lucky if you get 2 of 3.

In this case, at best we have an absolute lack of professionalism.

I worked with people with mental disabilities for 10 years. Every single day, someone would say "just let go and I'll stop" and then immediately take off or start fighting the millisecond they felt someone release some pressure.
