Tragic. Dude didn't have to kill himself with cocaine.

There's no telling what other drugs he consumed. This should be used in a
"SAY NO TO DRUGS" advertisement.

From the video, I see nothing wrong with how LEO handled this guy.

“And do note, homicide only means it was caused by another human.”

If I’m not mistaken, homicide can include suicide, so it doesn’t necessarily imply that anyone other than the deceased is at fault.

I agree, but if you find yourself laughing at someone in such a horrible state you should find another line of work for your own good.

False.

quote:

Homicide is the act of one human killing another. A homicide requires only a volitional act by another person that results in death, and thus a homicide may result from accidental, reckless, or negligent acts even if there is no intent to cause harm

So you clearly haven't worked in any sort of field like medicine, social work, law enforcement, military, etc.? Because what they said looks terrible in hind sight but is absolutely normal.

ETA: As said, half the video is missing. You think they edited out any part of the video where they cops look bad? They likely edited out video where the guy continued to act in a manner that justified restraint.

Agreed, but usually they aren't stupid enough to do it while being recorded.

Then you wouldn't be in the profession for very long.

I bet you hear far worse commentary uttered by doctors in every ER in the US.

bullshite. I wouldn't do the same bc I'm not an arrogant pos like most cops. Cops need constant humility training and some training to help them not be such chickens about every little thing.

They are recorded almost their entire shift while on duty now a days. That's not realistic.

I can go either way on this one, honestly. If these cops catered to everything every crazy person told them, they'd probably be completely dysfunctional.

Are the medics supposed to check some sort of vitals before shooting someone up with a sedative?

Same

I remain open to the possibility that the cops severely fricked up here and should face the consequences.

But, I dislike this trend of "oh you can hear them laughing". Cops deal with shitbags day in and day out who will say anything to try and improve their situation. Complaining about cops laughing or joking is like complaining about doctors or surgeons with bad bedside manner. Both are constantly put into serious situations and with hindsight we want them to exhibit kindness and full emotional investment 100% of the time when it's just not realistic.

Is it a great look for the profession? No. Is it difficult for families to see when things go wrong? Yes. Is it completely understandable in many cases because of the necessary detachment that probably serves to protect people who deal with these situations? Yes.

I'm sorry, but this is simply not acceptable behavior. Calling it a coping mechanism is horseshite.

True. I get gallows humor as a means to cope with a bad situation. All I said was that if you find yourself laughing while someone is dying you may want to find another job to do for your own good. Look at the suicide rates for the professions you mentioned.

I'm sure his pearls would be crushed if he heard what soldiers say during peacekeeping missions.
