at least 90% of people in prison are beyond repair
We need to stop letting them out
exactly
most of the people in prison parted with society in their early teens.

But the for profit prison system is a disgrace
This term is meaningless and harmful in its deception.
Except for small towns that use short term jail stays as a way to extort money for fines from traffic and petty offenses, the prisons do not have control on the “supply” of inmates, either by way of length of jail terms or who gets incarcerated.
Private prisons, like publicly owned prisons, provide a service for a fee. The effectiveness is monitored by oversight in both cases.
At least with private prisons, efficiency is a factor.

And its not just burglars, the non-violent drug offenders in jail are in the hundreds of thousands I believe
If you can’t stay off the weed or crack when you know you’re facing a prison sentence, you’re not worth much

the public would be shocked to know how many "non-violent" offenders had a slew of other crimes dropped in their plea deals.

Tell that to the people acting like Dallas is a shithole right now.
Like any big city, parts of Dallas are a shithole right now. Obviously, there are still very nice parts of Dallas.
Expect a rapid expansion in the former, just in response to recent policy changes. I'm just calling them like I see them.

They normally drop the lower grade non violent ones first... as they should.

That is insane if they won't prosecute under $750 in theft. That's not exactly a victimless crime. We should be increasing the penalty.
People mischaracterize it into legal theft of under $750.
What he actually said is they might not prosecute people who are stealing necessities like food and diapers under $750. People stealing for profit will be prosecuted.
Still a shitty policy, but not nearly as bad as the fake news brigade here has made it out to be.

Do you work for the prison lobby?
Private prison lobby quite effectively for harder sentence structures for convicted criminals. They are making billions of dollars in revenue by keeping sentences longer and recidivism rates higher.
Look how much the GEO Group spends on lobbying for legislation that benefits their bottom line.
It is abhorrent.

No they wouldn't.
Because they usually drop the less severe ones.

Just got back from Dallas. Could've happened to me.
Posted on 6/4/19 at 10:58 am to TheCaterpillar
private prisons are an abomination
are they the biggest problem in the system? not even fricking close. i'm all for slashing drug crimes if it meant we added draconian sentences for property and violent crime.

Jerome is in jail for 25 years for weed! Never mind it was three pounds and he had an a prior distribution charge and four domestic violence arrests.

When compared to the rest of the Metroplex, it makes a very solid case.

They usually drop the ones that get to a deal

Overall grade is still A and you're mostly comparing it to communities specifically made and master planned as places to live.
With how you post about it, you'd imagine the discrepancy is more like A+ to D or below.

i think drug prosecutions are bullshite but yeah, any guy moving real weight or things above weed has likely a long record or has committed a bunch of other crimes.

Alaska tried this and it failed miserably. Really impacted quality of life. It's something I see various other places doing now and it's backwards.
Drug crimes? I'm all for decriminalization but once you let the reigns loose on property crime it gets bad
