Looking at buying a home around Dallas. I work mostly around University Park and Preston Hollow.

Richardson, looks like the best area for the money from my initial searches. This keeps me within budget for a nice home and still making a relatively easy commute. Homes that are within my budget, in the city, and in a nice area, need to much work if not a total gutting.

No kids and not married, but still considering school districts for resale.

.

Live in the M streets currently. Love it, but rental prices are high. I would like to start investing into a home, and I am just tired of renting in general.

You can also stay in Dallas and technically not go to burbs—Prestonwood, BentTree, Walnut Hill, Preston Highlands, Highlands of McKamy.

I live in city of Dallas but in Collin County and Plano ISD, so Far North Dallas—homes in the mid 300s and up, depending on what you’re looking for.

House across the street for sale at 339k 3/2 ~1800 sq ft. Gated community.

Frisco is nice but that’s a bear of a commute.

Richardson is not a bad choice though—better commute.

The best places are moving North into Collin County.

$300,000 budget - good luck.

Best thing you can do though, is get out of Dallas County.

Depends where. Part of Richardson (the part in Collin County) is in the Plano school district which is ranked more highly than Richardson's. OTOH if you live in the area zoned to JJ Pearce, it is always among the best HS in the state (and very close to UT Dallas).

Considering your situation, just live close to work or in Richardson. Move to Plano or Frisco or Allen once you start having kids.

Richardson is growing. Best bang for your buck. Frisco and The Colony are already topping out.

Just move to Van Alstyne. It'll be the burbs soon enough.
