It's missing zip ties and duct tape fasteners.

he did a great job and should be proud of a very simple but effective design, but that said, I have a few points to critique.

should have used 8" pipe for the floats and they should be foam filled. at this point I would just add another 6" pipe filled with foam (or maybe 2) for adding more buoyancy, and then connect them together. with almost no weight on it, its sunk nearly half way so more floatation is needed for it.

the side poles should be going straight down into the pipe at a 90 degree angle straight up and not attach by connected to the side like that, you create a weak connection and breaking point by doing that.

the cross bars and roof supports are going to sag in the heat over time and get all droopy. also you need one cross brace at every set of side poles to give it proper support or a strong wind will twist it up and bend it apart.

it wont be long before the roof and cross bars sag so much it looks like its melting. it already looks like that has started. it can be saved if you take it apart and slide some aluminized conduit inside the pipe for the cross braces and the roof to keep it from sagging so it stays straight and rigid and then it should last you forever.

Thanks for the tips. Will pass along.

Pvc also degrades in UV light. A coat of paint o the PVC will make it last much longer.

My dad made a similar structure for a temporary shed. It lasted about a day before the tarp ripped.

Ok, so yesterday in the OB you downed my Yamaha, and today you down a mercury.. what motor- exactly- do you suggest as being the best brand? Just curious....

I was joking about yours. Nothing wrong with 150 HPDI. But the 250 HPDI is a known POS. Besides that, Yamaha is tGoat.

If not, they could just ease the boat out the back a little and enter from the what looks like 3-5 feet of dock where he took the pic from.

I don't see it lasting thru summer. A couple of strong winded thunder storms and it will get twisted and warped and look even trashier than it does not. Unless that tarp is a high grade UV resistant material, it will be shredded by August, if it makes it that long.

If it's not anchored, it will be a flying missile at the first strong wind.

I think it's not bad...but it had better be lashed to some serious weight on the non-pier side.

It's not 100% mercury, but it's not 100% yammy either.

IF the tarps are ripstop, some U shaped cut outs would give it more 'give' in some wind storms.

This guys dad and mine could probably teach a PVC engineering class. He was a pipe fitter and damn near everything was made out of some sort of pipe at our place growing up. Our lawn furniture including a couch was all made of PVC.

I liked to jug fish so my dad designed ridiculous PVC contraptions that put a flag up when a fish was on. The original design would get pulled under by big blue cats and they would wrap around logs. So he made the damn things out of larger PVC. They took up 10 times the space of a jug in the boat so I could barely see where I was going with the boat loaded. Still had to use them since he spent so much time making them.

Replace the tarp with a used billboard vinyl You can put the back side on top so you are not advertising for Alexander Shunnarah...
