I tend to agree. But if the "online shopping" focus is basically reducing the footprint and having more third party local delivery, that may be genuine.

They can presumably feed more inventory to handle that demand to existing stores. I have no clue how many people are opting to get CVS deliveries from Shipt and ubereats, but it would make more sense than the alternative.

Same. I don't think I've ever visited a drug store website.

I imagine CVS’s online pharmacy is pretty big. My last two insurance companies contracted with their online services to provide reduced cost prescriptions when you ordered a 60-90 day+ supply.

I agree CVS is over priced but they do send 35% off entire order coupons and 40% off one item coupons on the regular. My wife uses an insanely expensive shampoo so I stock up on it when I get these coupons. It becomes cheaper than any place online.

At some point, the CVS and Walgreens type place will switch to being pure pharmacies. When I've seen branches in hospitals and the like, they will have some of the OTC meds and that's it aside from the prescription side. The convenience store method will be gone in time. Aside from being way overpriced, that will cut down on the riff raff crowd if they only offer OTC and prescriptions.

Doubtful.

Thanks to PBMs stand alone pharmacies are not profitable

I use online quite a bit. As long as it's not something that you need immediately it's fine. I've stopped ordering any personal care products from Amazon. The amount of counterfeit items on there i ridiculous.

They have 2 employees per store. You practically have to hunt somebody down to check out. They have been promoting shoplifting for years.

COVID helping turbocharge the popularity of online shopping.
Online as in, ordering RX from Canada.
For less than the cost of a 30 day RX prescription in the US., I get a 90 day supply from Canada.

More customers are getting prescriptions filled online

Thousands of stores across the US have been forced to lock up basic products like toothpaste and deodorant following a spike in shoplifting. As of April 2023, stores had lost an estimated $86.6 billion to retail theft in 2022

What do you expect? There are no consequences when they steal...they do nothing!

Just imagine if they were still selling cigarettes. It would be 2900 stores closing.

I think the thieves will push all retailers in this direction. They’ll have one local brick and mortar depot for returns and maybe a secure showroom, but otherwise they’ll peddle their wares online. No rent to pay on multiple locations, wages, insurance, lawsuits from slip and falls, fights with employees, or shrink from rampant and unpunished theft.

And yet, they wonder why there are no grocery stores or businesses in their neighborhoods.
They know, they just don't want to admit it.

Take a look at what their real estate is worth.

The one that is closest to me opened 20ish years ago when there was little in the area. Then, CVS paid $3.5 million for the corner lot the building sits on. In those 2+ decades since that store was built the area has boomed and property value has skyrocketed. I imagine many of their stores are similar.

Shoplifting may be affecting some stores, but CVS, Rite Aid & Walgreens are being more affected by the increases in prescriptions by mail and the rise of the dollar stores (for food items & general merchandise it tries to sell in their stores).

No doubt that a part of the reason CVS would shutter store for shoplifting, but I don't think it's the only reason, especially since all the pharmacies in Target store fall under the CVS brand.

About what is takes to get out of a Walgreens in Bham. They have no security and don't care about the paying customers.

The Chicago politicians have indicated they will need to replace bankrupt stores with government run stores. This will require funding by a "Grant" from the Government.

Isn't that Communism?

They account for these losses in their yearly budgeting!

Add that to the crappy service and there ya go.
