CV Death numbers: NY and NJ are Obvious, but Michigan?

Nearly 10k of the 18+k deaths are from NY and NJ. That makes sense. I understand that. NOLA just had nasty arse Mardi Gras, so our 755 deaths are likely spread by that huge germ fest. I get that. Michigan, however, has the 2nd highest total of cases and deaths, and it isn't close! Their death totals are 40% higher than ours. Is there something obvious that I am not seeing? I attempted to Google to see if this idea has already been explained, but I don't see anything.
Any thoughts or ideas about Michigan's cv outbreak?

I been to Detroit’s airport once. Was amazed how many Asians were in there.
I think Detroit is a big hub to travel to Asia. Goes right over the North Pole.

Could be , that used to be a big northwest hub and northwest had a ton of the Asian routes

Lots of blacks in Detroit. Covid gets obese blacks with hypertension and/or diabetes disproportionally..

This is true. It is still the same since northwest merged with delta. Add that to the same trends you are seeing in New Orleans with death rate and ethnicity/race correlation.

The hospitals are probably reporting “natural causes deaths” as Covid so they can get more money.

Honestly given their testing rate and high mortality I suspect it is driven by certain health systems documentation and coding of the deaths. Given the shifts in health insurance payments and burden for the patient there are financial incentives for hospitals to classify everything as COVID. On 4/1 CMS released the ICD-10 code for COVID. This will allow them to determine the primary cause. That cause will ultimately allow for more accurate classification.

If you look at the cluster in Georgia caused by a single superspreader who left Atlanta and came to a big old fashioned church service to bury one member of a large family and the infection spread after that get together with the food at the wake and the huggin' and kissin' and hanging out.
A big funeral did a lot of spreading of the virus and then there was a second spread in Georgia, also tied to a funeral.
The first Korea spread was tied to a church that was a really large and crowded meeting place.
But I don't think we've heard any CDC comments about how the spreads happened in Detroit. Yet.

Probably testing more. Also if someone dies, some states aren't testing to see if they had Covid. So it's not going into the stats.
