Great topic. I just heard THIS morning a Crimestoppers bulletin for a 2014 murder in New Orleans off Lasalle street.
The reward? $2500. Twenty five fricking hundred dollars for a MURDER?
These need to be $25k and people will start fricking talking. Absurd as frick if that bitch couldn't take a $100k pay cut while solving four more murders a year.

Not gonna happen.
You should have seen her smug little face when Meg asked about the bonus. Reminded me of something Hillary Clinton would have done.
The people in New Orleans that want to say, "hey don't worry about her.....worry about the actual crime" are even more depressing.
Don't complain about the crime and murder, then turn a blind eye to white collar criminals like Darlene who are fleecing the public in the name of crime prevention. It's laughable.

I just couldn't believe solving a murder was worth $2500 to them.
I always remembered BR Crimestoppers offering $10k for murders and $2500 for robberies and shite. That was 20 years ago. How the hell did that value go DOWN?
but

The St Tammany top cop makes more than the NOPD top cop.
THAT'S the issue to me. No wonder we have such a crappy chief.
They are a private organization but they get money from the government via court costs, so I think they deserve public scrutiny. But this is pretty far down the list of my current concerns with the city.

As the supply of murder go up the value of each murder goes down......

they're A LOT more non profit employees in this city making more money than her. I don't see an issue.
E.g. Ron Forman, the CEO of the Zoo, making $600K+ and his salary comes directly from taxpayer funds. The Zoo had the audacity to have a special election to increase their property tax millage allocation for a 100 years (!) Luckily the millage wasn't approved, but there are too many non profit organizations that exist solely to fund their employees' interest.
Non-profit entities should be more accurately called non-tax paying entities. That's the only distinction between a non-profit and a business.

It's probably more but yes the Audobon foundation gets its primary funding from Orleans parish property taxes.
Plus whatever he and Irvin Mayfield decided to split from the hundreds of thousands they stole from the New Orleans Public Library Foundation. There's a whole series of news stories on their graft and there was no resolution.

At least we learned that you aren't the only one in this thread who has no idea what "profit" means.

Well, it is good information to have when deciding whether to financially support them, no?

And those thousands of people are also effectively stealing money from donors/taxpayers.
The city and state could save us all a lot of money if they stopped all funding of "non profit" organizations. I don't understand why government should find them in any way.

As far as I can see, everything has been above board. If the salary is too high for your taste, do not donate, although I suspect you already do not and are just in here blowing smoke about something that affects you not at all.

How much should a woman be paid to operate a tip hotline?
then make a phone call to the chief and report what anonymous tips she's received.
I'm sorry, write checks to people who provide info that lead to an arrest.
But your statements above are just wrong.
I was on the Baton Rouge Crimestoppers board years ago when we first started up the local chapter and we didn't have any full time staff. We were all business people who served as volunteers.
The number one time consuming duty of the board members was to ask businesses to donate and help fund the operation. There is no doubt in my mind that is the New Orleans lady's primary responsibility. That's NOT an easy job.
Then there's the public relations part of the job to get the public to give tips on crimes and not be afraid of being betrayed to the criminal.
Also, there is a tremendous amount of time spent tracking the tips and their results in order to justify asking businesses for more donations.
I only served on the board for 3 years because it was a tedious, risky, thankless job that exposed my family to criminals who wanted revenge for being outted.
And Crimestoppers doesn't "write checks." The tips are anonymous. If the person giving the tip has to give his name so it can be printed on a check, the entire operation collapses. If criminals find out who has ratted on them, the tipster is in danger.
All rewards are paid in cash with some type of 'dead drop' procedure. We used a bank's drive up teller window with the person who gave the tip driving up and giving the teller a piece of paper with a certain code word and number on it. The teller would then send the envelope with the reward cash in it via the tube to the person witnessed by a second teller to verify the envelope was handed out. (The tipster was directed to use the outside lane away from the teller window for his anonymity protection.) The payments had to be coordinated with the police to make sure payments were made only when a tip resulted in an arrest.
The required IRS reporting of money taken in and paid out as rewards was enough to make most people not want the job.
You've really made yourself appear to be a jealous, small, ignorant person in this thread.
