no point in bothering to give any more details since you everyone has already decided it didn't happen.
I'm not saying it didn't happen. What YOU said is that your guy didn't go into great detail, you didn't press him because it wasn't something he wanted to talk about, he's deceased now, and there was some type of follow up investigation that took some period of time that ultimately cleared him of any wrongdoing.
What I said was that it's hard to believe the media didn't catch wind of this and report on it.

pisses me off when people say that no one was shooting at the first responders at the superdome. My late fiance was there with the fire dept and the national guard was there. There were assholes in houses around there taking shots at them when they were outside the dome. My fiance said the Nat Guard guys were very young and afraid to shoot back. My fiance got one of their guns and shot back. He said he knew he killed one because he saw the head explode with blood. It traumatized him so much because fiance was a man who spent his life helping people and did not even own a gun or hunt. He felt he was going to hell for it but what choice did he have? He saved lives. Later, he was summoned to a meeting and told that it was confirmed that he killed 3 of the a-hole snipers with the Nat Guard gun. he was cleared of all charges but it still haunted him to till the day he died. I was the one who slept next to him and dealt with his PTSD. People may not believe it and the media will downright deny it but it happened.
A lot of stories posted, are overwhelmingly realistic. However, this is a little much. He supposedly didn’t even own a rifle, but engaged at least 3 guys shooting in his direction, and killed 3? This isn’t a movie we’re talking about here.
I’m not necessarily saying you’re lying, but he is/was.

I said house but I guess it was some other sort of building where the snipers were holed up. Like I said, I wasn't pressing for little details. People were shooting at him so I didnt give a frick what type of building they were shooting from.
So he greased 3 barricaded shooters with his commandeered rifle? You should have sniffed that bullshite out

At least based on a single report, it was reported to me that someone was shooting at the helicopters and that we had shot and killed him. My troops were sleeping right underneath the deck they were landing the helos at and that is who reported this to me.
The rest of your post, respectfully, did not happen.

It seems silly but being pounded with water while in a traumatic situation can easily break someone’s focus and mental!

None of my guys were shot. My poor memory is that it was almost certainly an MP, but we had Engineers - a little of everything.
I was in a weird place in the heirarchy. At the Superdome, I was primarily a liaison officer. I ended up as an operations officer for Task Force Defender, then Task Force New Orleans, but that was later in the year.
My "guys" that I'm speaking of here were from my organic unit that I was keeping an eye on. As it is, Ed Bush retracted there was ever a sniper at the dome or our returning fire. I didn't hear the exchange - all I could hear was helicopters for about 7 days.
But, that initial report ended up in the AP as if there was a major assault on the dome which didn't happen. It's possible it was cloud of war and the helicopter shooting was a phantom, but I am not reporting media reports here - I'm giving first hand and (like in this case) contemporaneous second hand reports that I can provide.

Elk running loose on Hwy 23 N of Venice. They'd gotten out of a high fenced ranch and were quite confused.
Trucks in trees in Port Sulphur a close 2nd.

Wife calling and asking if her mom and sister can come stay at the house for a "few" days. I said no and they have never forgiven me. Best decision I have ever made. They don't come for Christmas dinners and they would have lived in my house for 6 months.
FTR they waited until the last minute to get out and had a relative in a safer part of the state with an empty house.

A fellow I know was part of a team of Law Enforcement that went down to St. Bernard Parish to check on some assisted living units that had been flooded. This was like 5 days after the storm. They got on a Coast Guard cutter at the Riverwalk. While they waited on the boat, they did a quick patrol. Every store had been trashed except one. Bed Bath and Beyond was untouched. When they got to one of the nursing homes they in for a shock. The admins of the nursing home had abandoned 10-12 elderly people whose families had not picked them up. There was a 19 year old kid who had gone there to pick up his grandfather before the storm and he realized they would die if he left them there. So he stayed. He got everyone into the attic and for the next 5 days he went back down into the water to get them their medicine and food and water to keep them alive. He lost a couple but he saved the rest.

One of my personal favorites was when I talked to some execs from Hibernia Bank who were standing around a branch across from where we were staying on the West Bank. They related that while others were out looting TV's, shoes and other BS, some enterprising individuals used a truck and chain to pull out of the ground and steal all of the detached ATM's at their branches. They were laughing that with no power to set off the alarms or power the video cameras whoever did it got away clean. Hundreds of thousands of dollars of unmarked random bills while others were stealing TV's and cell phones that wouldn't work with the power off.
Noted for the next big storm.
Having worked for Hibernia Bank, I can tell you that there are a maximum of 20k put in the atm’s. There isnt as much atm traffic as most people think.

Correct. And the security guys told me the bandits hit multiple branches. At $15-$20k a pop, I would say they did damn well vs stealing big screens.

Just to confirm an earlier sentiment that I’m pretty sure I’ve posted here before...
We went to volunteer at Lamar-Dixon and it was one of the worst experiences I’ve had. Some people were nice and grateful, but a very large portion were not. Stealing from others, denying hot food because “I don’t eat that shite”, foul language towards us and anyone trying to help.
I was 15 and was briefed by some adults that it would be an emotional scene for some and was prepared for that. However, I went for one day and did not go back. I will never volunteer for something to that scale ever again.

btw as far as a Katrina story.....I wasn't anywhere close to where Katrina hit(Tupelo, MS). But on the days after the storm I did spot an almost never-ending convoy of oversized trucks hauling heaving equipment heading south.
