I’m often amazed at how many people around here practically worship crawfish. I’ll eat them if there’s a boil, but they certainly aren’t a necessity.

Agree. Only way to affect them is to hit them in their wallets. It’s gotten way out of hand.

A business trying to paint a pretty picture for their customers and encourage them to come in. Crazy!

Lent starts in almost 2 weeks, you can’t just put traps out the day before lent and start catching. You have to start running the ponds to get the crawfish to start moving. Easter is March 31st you have to take advantage of Lent because after Easter the demand goes down. That is why most crawfish festivals are after Easter less demand.

About 10-12 years ago. I guess the industry is on board with global warming too, right? Nobody ever mentions fuel prices have more to do with it than anything. Costs more to fill up a tank, paying the delivery guy, and work visas for the illegals to catch them. Inflation, inflation, inflation.

Are the prices this high now just on a whim of greed?

Poor people are too stupid to know what “hit them in the wallet” means so they will mortgage the trailer to have a crawfish boil no matter the cost

Well off/rich people don’t give a frick and will still buy crawfish no matter what the cost is.

When it comes to crawfish, just like gas, no matter what the price is, people are still going to pay for it.

Fuel prices were up more the last 2 years. Fuel prices are cheaper this year than 2 years ago, and the average price for the whole season was no more than normal. The price of crawfish is simple, supply and demand. There’s no supply and high demand. No supply because of the Drought conditions this past year. Once again Farmers don’t call the price because if we did the prices the last 2 years would have been higher to offset the fuel and labor prices.

DFW people have more money than sense.

Buying crawfish end of Jan is dumb.

Paying those prices is dumber.

If people did not pay those prices they would come down fast. Crawfish spoils once it’s at the restaurant

Once again on a normal season pond crawfish are plentiful in January, prices are usually $2.50-$3.50lb from the farmer, which puts prices for boiled around $5-$7lb and they come down throughout the season. There’s nothing that can be done about the low supply right now. If you don’t want to buy crawfish at $11lb+ boiled that’s completely fine just wait. It will come down gradually, but if some people want to buy it right now they have the right to.

The market is set by the clowns in Pierre Part. Been like that for years.

I know that’s my point. Farmers get whatever the market price is. Price is usually set every Monday. There’s a crawfish board that get together and make the price

It doesn’t matter what they cost if your able to use an EBT food stamp card to buy them!
I’ve been into several stores that sell crawfish that had people ahead of me buying them. Every single one paid with a La Purchase Card!
So stupid to allow that to happen.
And of course they pull out a wad of cash to pay for the beer to go with them.

2011. The timing was a little different, as there was some relief around the time this current drought really set in, but not enough to help a whole lot. That drought lingered to some degree for the better part of two years.

I'd like to know how prices compared between these two timeframes, accounting for inflation, of course.

What if I told you "they" are already being hit in the wallet? You probably wouldn't understand that, though.
