A lot of chemical and petrochemical plants are right now, but their stock is actually down over the past 12 months.

A lot of beers don't need co2 to brew.

Naturally carbonated beer is a thing . Also, they can substitute co2 for nitrogen if they want.

Night Shift Brewing, in Everett, Massachusetts, just outside Boston, cited the CO2 shortage as the reason it is suspending operations at its longtime facility and outsourcing to nearby locations instead.

Well that sucks. Night Shift is a great spot.

Don't worry, I doubt this will affect the swill in bud light cans.

And one brewer has already said it plans to shut down a key manufacturing plant and lay off workers as a result.

so, one then?

Not trying to be a smartass, but Im pretty close to this industry...no real shortage, just delays from drivers, equipment etc, and of course price.

Production will start right back up, after they raise prices 40%.

I sure as hell hope not. But maybe they won’t do their space on the Esplanade next season which would suck.

Not close to the industry but this very morning I went and got a bottle of CO2 for my kegerator and it was more expensive by a few bucks but they had plenty.

Somebody is just using a good excuse for closing, breweries don't use enough CO2 per unit of sale to really move the needle, hell most could trap offgass and sell it if they wished.

CO2 is the main byproduct of fermentation, a brewery already has all it would ever need.

As someone in the industry it’s not just craft breweries. Restaurants and bars are having issues getting it for beer taps, soda machines and bib set ups. I had to leave NuCO2 (terrible company) cause they charged me every month during Covid, added a $200 “emergency” refill charge, they use to check periodically making their rounds and would refill/top off as needed. They stopped coming to check so you called for a refill it was an auto “emergency”. Cancelled them after they told me that had I a 25 year contract like inbought a house or something. They sued and lost. The got hit for 10k bill for lost equipment that they never picked up. They sued again and lost.

Now run through TNT off River road who has been very accommodating so far. But that’s supplemental income to them so we’ll see how long it last.!

I work in the industrial gas industry.
We're currently at 50% allocation on bulk CO2 deliveries. It's not one reason but rather a perfect storm so to speak. Everything from sourcing issues, to driver shortages, to the fact the CO2 demand is through the roof right now.
Unfortunately the beer and soda fountains are probably the last in line as far as priority.
