Covington legislator calls for end to Louisiana coronavirus stay-home order by month's end

A state representative from Covington is urging an end to the stay-home order at month's end, saying that Louisiana is facing an economic abyss if the coronavirus measure put in place last month by Gov. John Bel Edwards is extended.
In a news release, Rep. Mark Wright, a Republican, said that he respects Edwards' effort protect the people of Louisiana and what health care professionals and people are doing to reduce the the spread of the virus.
"But at the end of the day, we cannot continue with these drastic measures as unemployment soars and countless small businesses close their doors permanently," he said.

I guess you haven’t been around Houma. I travel 18 miles everyday for work. The only thing that has changed is my morning commute is faster.
No one around here is acting like covid is a big deal. Which I fully agree with because it’s affected less than 1% of the population. Why jbe crippled business here I can’t wrap my head around.

All of the initial projections for worst case scenarios have been orders of magnitude wrong. All the lowest projections assuming everything has been don’t perfectly have been 3-6 times higher than reality is going to prove out.
The hospitals were never going to be overrun. And that apparent now. This virus is deadly to immune deficient individuals, unhealthy individuals, and elderly. Those most impacted should take precautions and everyone else should be living life like normal, but adopt the better hygiene standards and practices.

Drove to work this am and the traffic increase today was noticeably heavier by everyone here. Don’t know if it’s because the checks hit or people are going back to work but something has changed as of this morning.

At the end of JBE's term is someone going to total up the number of jobs that were destroyed or sent out of Louisiana during his tenure? I'm not saying that all of the losses are directly attributable to him, but the sheer number of Louisiana job losses during those eight years is going to be staggering.
I'm not sure Louisiana will ever recover economically.
