re: Covington legislator calls for end to Louisiana coronavirus stay-home order by month's end

There is a certain point (we may have reached it already) that we simply cannot financially, economically, physically - stay at home any longer unless we want to be homeless on the streets. It's easy to sit at your desk and pound your fist on the desk about how we need a few more months and cite examples of other countries' blunders.

But at the end of the day, we simply cannot keep going like this. We are either coming up fast on that point, or have already reached it that we have to get back to work so we can start the Louisiana economy circulating again. Or face economic ruin and be like the Great Depression.

Wright said Monday that those who are most vulnerable, "are most vulnerable are aware of their risk factors and can make their own choices."

The rep has not thought this out very well.

His argument is partial and implies that money is more important than health.

JBE was complaining yesterday that there are too many people out and our numbers are gonna rise. There has definitely been a spike in cars on the road in BR the past few weeks.

Whether it is education, spending, taxes, healthcare, etc, whenever LA decides to "go their own way" and "make their own choices" it is an unmitigated disaster.

LA "making their own choices" means the politicians make the choices that personally benefit them and screw everyone else.

What would happen if we had a legit issue, like nuke war fallout or massive invasive pandemic that legit required us to stay inside for 8-12 weeks? We would have no shot. People just don't give AF enough to prepare themselves or do things for the greater good.

My belief is that when we reopen things, there WILL be a major rise in infections. My hope is over the last month, we have increased medical capacity enough that we can handle it.

I can't necessarily disagree with that, but I have a pretty good explanation as to why we're collectively making poor choices on the social distancing thing.


The people of Louisiana are by nature, a friendly and a social people. In summary, we don't keep to ourselves. We like to gather and we like to invite people in. Think of how we are with LSU tailgating. That, in a nutshell, is how we are across the board. Other states, not so much. Other states - their people are more to themselves. So social distancing is not so much a big deal to them. With us, it's a HUGE deal. shite, in some northern states they practice social distancing year round, with or without Covid 19 going around. So yeah, they completely get it. Not us. It's like hell to our people.

So to ask us to stay locked up for months on end, is kind of a kick in the nuts to a lot of us. I know it's necessary right now, but at the same time, don't lecture us on how terrible we are for wanting to do stuff with others. And that is only going to get worse the longer this lockdown goes on, by the way. It's going to get to a point (if it hasn't already) that John Bel gets pissed and red in the face and keeps lecturing to us while we all tell him to suck a dick and just do our thing anyway. I said this a week ago. He can threaten to extend this past the May 1st date, but if he does he needs to understand that this is more than likely going to fall to deaf ears because nobody is gonna make it going on into May. People have (for the most part) done well in Louisiana - considering what I explained above. But enough is fricking enough already. Especially with the numbers basically showing that we've lined out and it kind of seems to be wanting to make a turn on the downslope of the curve.
