A Covington principal and assistant principal were arrested Wednesday and are facing charges after they were accused of failing to comply with the state's mandatory reporting law.

The St. Tammany inmate roster shows that Tanya Barth and Lauryn Faciane were arrested and released on the same day. Their bonds were set at $5,000 each.

Barth and Faciane work at E.E. Lyon Elementary School in Covington, according to the school's website.

According to Covington police, both Barth and Faciane have been charged with failure to comply with Louisiana's mandatory reporting law.

The law requires school administrators to promptly report suspected abuse, neglect and other incidents involving children to authorities.

Not a lot of details. Anybody have the inside scoop?

Im no private investigater but to me it sounds like they failed to report something, probably scared of angry parents coming after them if they acuse them of something serious!

That generally has something to do with abuse/suspected abuse.

Guessing maybe a student said something to them and they didn’t send it up or it was sent up to them and they sat on it.

Reading several places, sounds like failure to report.

I don't know the exact details and obviously you have to report abuse.

I would hope it would be something very egregious and cut and dry to charge them criminally.

Hell the justice system doesn't seem to be doing much to the abusers themselves these days

This might be a nothingburger, but if it's something serious, smiling in your mugshot might not have been the move to take.

With liability being the way it is today, on top of low pay, dealing with undisciplinable kids and parents who think their kids do no wrong, I don't understand why anybody would get involved in teaching.

Even in Covington, public schools are filled with trash.

I wouldn’t exactly call those smiles, the one on the left looks like she’s crying
