Wasn't the 30+ minute power outage during Super Bowl XLVII caused by failed Entergy equipment near the Superdome?
A dash of corporate arrogance and a heap of incompetence contributed to it as well.

For my own education, do you pay all of the add on fees if you add a separate meter on your property for a shed?
I was actually considering this for a new metal building I was erecting.

They have to cancel service not to be billed. Once service is cut no bill.

Entergy smooths their bills based on historical electricity consumption.
That will always favor Entergy.

Utility companies with their greedy *checks notes* 7% margins
A constant 7pct is not bad.
Also worth thinking about, that's their GAAP bottom line after financial engineering. If it's anything like PG&E, that place is coated in gold. I've done work for power companies and their people work very easy days, drive very nice trucks, and have incredible benefits.
See above comments about a monopoly.

I went to middle school(Scompton) with Michael, I could see him crying about utility bills

Not unique to power companies

I'm not a LA resident, but just for reference my electric bill has averaged around $35 in non-usage based costs and fees and I have been very satisfied with the quality of service provided (quickly restored during a storm, repairs, etc.)

I did this with Atmos gas service. I went so far as to call the public service commission office. She told me the same thing, it’s to pay for the “right to have service, support”. I told her it was bs and that I don’t have to throw dollar bills out the window every time I pass a gas station to make sure I have the right to stop and actually buy something. She hung up on me. ??

quote:Pretty much but not technically if you just shut the main breaker to the residence, all of that administrative BS and fees to cover it are still ongoing on a monthly basis. Apparently its over $100 without even using one kilowatt hour which is more than I would've imagined but the power companies are going to CYA at the end of the day regardless of what's happening in the economy and we're just seeing that. Apparently the only way to avoid this is to shut the account down altogether.
Isn't that what they pretty much did?

I don't mind if they have good equipment and gear. I don't even mind the higher bills if it results in better service.
I am frustrated that none of these fees are translating to more reliable service in my area though.

But you do pay for all of those things every time you fill up, so do you just prefer the ignorance of not realizing what you pay for?

If you lived in an area that wasn't destroyed every 5 years it wouldn't be as expensive. That's just the reality of it.

That takes infrastructure.
If they would ever take some of the restoration fees and put them into upgrades like underground utilities, they would save themselves and their customers billions.
Not to mention, a lot of that restoration $ comes from the government, meaning it comes from the customers already.

They'll be happy to bury the lines if you are willing to pay for it. It won't even cost you anything over what it costs them.

No because I realize that there is mandatory support for shite I use, when I use it. So I’m not ignorant when I knowingly pay added fees when I use the service. I’m not one to bitch about telecommunication fees now itemized on bills for those that didn’t know previously either.

No, they still had electricity service running to their property. I don't think it's news that there are a lot of fees associated with utility bills.
$115 is excessive. Up further north in the midwest, common "fees" for having electricity are in the $15-25 range.

I live well north of I-10 and my community got zero damage during Ida. My house hasn't gotten storm damage since Hurricane Andrew in 1992.
But since I'm still an Entergy customer, I get all of their stupid fees, poor service reliability, and horrible customer service. You can't blame it all on hurricanes.
