I worked in Calgary one summer and I never did get used to the sun rising in the NNE and setting in the NNW way too late at night.

We are gonna take our 20th anniversary trip there next summer.

Gonna be interesting to see that. We can't wait to do the Canadian Rockies. We are gonna do Calgary for a couple of days than head SSW over to Golden BC.

Seems strange. Found after 8 days only two miles from the car.
Is that area they were in somewhere that's easy to get lost in for that long?

Chena Hot Springs is in the middle of nowhere, relatively speaking. Its an awesome place in winter though.

I think theres probably more to the story than just getting disoriented though.

FAIRBANKS, Alaska (KTUU/Gray News) - A couple from Tennessee who went missing at an Alaskan resort for nearly a week has been located.

KTUU reports that Jonas Bare, 50, and Cynthia Hovsepian, 37, were first reported missing last Saturday after they did not check out of their vacation rental and missed their return flight home.

On Friday, Alaska State Troopers said Bare was found by a pair of hikers about 200 yards from the Chena Hot Springs Resort. The hikers assisted him and brought him to the rescue post at the resort.

Bare, uninjured, told troopers that he left his companion, Hovsepian, about 3 miles away from the resort to seek help. Troopers and Bare returned to the area, calling out for Hovsepian until she was found.

They ended up finding Hovsepian and the group all returned to the command post at the resort safely.

Bare and Hovsepian were evaluated by medics but there was no immediate word on their condition.

The tourists were visiting the Fairbanks area from Nashville. Family and friends became alarmed when they failed to make their return flight last weekend.

Authorities found the couple’s rental car earlier this week. Troopers also located the pair’s luggage that was still at their vacation rental

They were in over their heads. Its a resort, they had to be doing some heavy drugs to be so close for a week, and not know where they were.

Hopefully they weren’t relying on an iPhone 14’s Emergency SOS via satellite or sending location via satellite in Find My.

The resort is not necessarily the building itself, but the boundary of the property.

And to be fair, he was likely hiking in the direction of the resort. 200 yards away is just where he happened to be found/seen.

Glad that they were found safely. Just another reminder that you never ever, under any circumstances, venture off of a trail.

I thought for sure she would walk out saying he died by “accidentally” falling off a cliff somewhere out there.
