I thought that food stamps had stipulations in the beginning. No junk food, etc. I wonder what happened

Just listened to it. The guy has a good singing voice, but a little too much Mumford and Sons action going on with the constant voice straining.
Also, there is a truth in the lyrics, but it just comes off a little off putting. The title and chorus mention the “Rich Men North of Richmond” (great title), but in the song he complains about people on welfare.

Both are leaches. The wealthy in DC and NYC, and healthy, able bodied welfare recipients.

Folks can say what they want to about this song, but I just watched it bring a 40 year old black rapper to tears.

Yes you are correct, they are both leeches. But why does the song include the welfare recipients in it. He should’ve included something else about the elites instead of poor people on welfare, it almost ruins the song for me. It makes it become more of a Fox News anthem than an actual working class song.

The primary beneficiaries pushed to have those removed. And by primary beneficiaries, I mean Big Food, Inc.

Right? Who could’ve predicted that fat and lazy, worthless people, are a hell of a voting block if you make it easier to keep them fat, lazy and worthless?

Why not?
Healthy people on welfare are a massive drag on the rest of us. Politicians use them for power, they willingly comply.

He's not complaining about people on welfare. He's complaining about people abusing the system. He's comparing welfare queens with corporations/politicians aka "Rich men north of Richmond". The line 'We got folks in the street with nothing to eat and the obese are milking welfare". Both take much more than they need through "welfare" and have become "obese". One group through corporate welfare, and the other through Food Stamps.
He clearly states this in the next line, "If you're 5ft 3" and 300 pounds, taxes ought not pay for your bags of fudge rounds."
Don't be an absolutist. It is entirely possibly to agree with line quoted above, and yet still believe welfare should exist.

Exactly
Fat or lazy slobs on welfare take money from people who aren't capable of working.

I see white and black folks praising this song and the artists. This is touch a cord with everyone

Great song.
That's not country music, though. That's mountain music.
Exactly, this bluegrass music.

BTW, imagine being upset that someone calls out the Jerry Nadler types and actually defends the politicians in DC.
That is the most amazing thing about this thread! Confirmed proof positive there are paid operatives on TigerDroppings.

The rich men north of Richmond create the cradle to grave welfare class which keeps them in power and contributes to their wealth.
Terrifying an adult posting on this forum can’t follow those breadcrumbs

You're the exact target for corporate news.

Strange that Democrats seem to hate this song, a song about the rich men who control DC.
You know, the people Democrats used to pretend were the problem.
