The Chavez price controls were rendered ineffective due to corruption. They were also general, rather than targeted, price controls.
Arguing with some of you is like my arguments with Dad. Deep down he knows I make some good points, but he'll never acknowledge them.

yes

Does that include R&D or literally the cost to make that EpiPen?
R&D??
On adrenalin? That medication has been in existence since 1900. Not THE 1900's. 1900.
The pen itself has changed minimally over the decade or two I've been a nurse.

That was a knockout punch. I'm continually amazed at the excuses some posters will make to justify obscene profit taking and wealth making.

This doesn't seem unreasonable
A drug that once sold for $100 now selling for $700 doesn't sound unreasonable? Unless the cost of production went up or supply is low, there is no reason for that to cost $700..

Why is there no competition again?

The apologists for evil business practices are getting hammered.

so if you have a product that you can sell for $100 and the market says you can sell it for $700 you wouldn't sell it for that?

The fact you can't see we are criticizing evil government practices AND business practices is telling.

I don't think there is a code of ethics when it comes to pharmaceutical companies

I'm sure this is similar to the Martin Shkreli scandal where the news agencies only reported a quarter of the story. I'd be shocked if actual parents are paying $700 for an epipen.

Answer this, why isn't there more competition? If there was more competition, what would happen to the prices?
Who's justifying? Most people are telling you that our current regulations are prohibitive to competition which keeps prices high.

You never did address why you thought my posts were ironic.
I don't see a lot of criticism of the business practice from your side.

No. I am satisfied with my income. I don't need to pillage other people.

Can I please get your .02 on Martin Shkreli?
Posted on 8/22/16 at 1:45 pm to yoga girl
so you aren't going to answer the question about why isn't there any competition.

I don't that much when it comes to the pharmaceutical business, but if a company has a patent on a specific medication, until it expires isn't kind of hard for them to have competitors?
Also, I know pharmaceuticals are in the top 3 when it comes to most money spent on lobbyist.. Thats just more of a FYI.

Hopefully, he'll be in jail soon for securities fraud (he ought to go to jail for trying to give Kanye West $15m for that scumbag's album).

This is outrageous. Kind of kills the argument that capitalistic businesses don't need strict government regulation.
No. It kills the argument for government-granted/enforced monopolies

Never saw your response.
The irony is that you are criticizing the as you put it:
"manipulative, uber wealthy market manipulators.", however are perfectly fine trusting a person who is part of the group that allows and even promotes the manipulation to happen.

I mean, I don't know how much more I can criticize a business practice after accusing it of cronyism and using government to enable a monopolistic system that puts us the predicament we have. The issue is that you only see one option to solve the issue, more government, banking on the slim chance that this time, they won't be susceptible to cronyism again. Where as "my side" sees that if you open up competition, you can actual punish businesses for these types of practices.
