but if a company has a patent on a specific medication, until it expires isn't kind of hard for them to have competitors?
Also, I know pharmaceuticals are in the top 3 when it comes to most money spent on lobbyist.. Thats just more of a FYI.
If you're trying to say government policy, you're correct.

I mean, I don't know how much more I can criticize a business practice after accusing it of cronyism and using government to enable a monopolistic system that puts us the predicament we have. The issue is that you only see one option to solve the issue, more government, banking on the slim chance that this time, they won't be susceptible to cronyism again. Where as "my side" sees that if you open up competition, you can actual punish businesses for these types of practices.
I'm for competition and open markets. I love the small businesses. I patronize small businesses all the time, and try to avoid big business. I want to help the little business.
These giant firms use government to quash competition because they control Congress.
The only person right now who would be fair and honest is President Obama. I think Gary Johnson would also be honest. Everyone else in politics right now seems to be very sketchy.

No. I am satisfied with my income. I don't need to pillage other people.
You just want to pillage those who develop products, as you expect them to be sold at cost.

He's the poster child for price gouging but he probably is the supreme role model for most Wall Street types now.
This is why I don't invest in scumbag companies.

You're starting to get it. Government is the problem.

Of Johnson ever got elected, he would become as "sketchy" as the rest of them, and I'm voting for him.

What gives you that indication, all the grants he's given his friends in the energy game?
The issue is, no matter how trustworthy you think someone is, they will be replaced. Eventually they will be replaced by someone less trustworthy. Therefore, why would you entrust such power when it is inevitable that it will be abused, when there is an alternative that can accomplish the same goal without the threat of abuse?

You think it's just congress?

I wouldn't call selling epipens for $700 "selling at cost."

Companies exist to make a profit. If you don't make a profit, you don't make the shareholders happy.
You seem to think the issue here is one company jacking up prices while totally ignoring the idea that the system is set up just for that to happen. The system needs to be changed rather than prices capped.

Oh Lordy.
You do know President Obama cannot swipe his pen to create an executive order which governs a private entity right?
What you suggest amounts to despotism.

A drug that once sold for $100 now selling for $700 doesn't sound unreasonable? Unless the cost of production went up or supply is low, there is no reason for that to cost $700..
Why can't it cost $700? I'm genuinely curious.

Unfortunately you don't understand how R&D and billing insurance companies works in pharmaceuticals. Looks like you're the poster child of ignorance.

And to make future profits they need R&D. How do you think these companies pay for that?

They can sell it for whatever they want. That incentive has driven this country for 240 years.

Why do we keep electing so many dirtbags? We can't do better than this?
I'm sick of seeing people without money go into office and come out rich.

I understand. I own stock. I have nothing against the stock market, except for I have trouble with the abuses (e.g. cutting labor to squeeze out more profit). I have concerns about the market at times, for example, I have BH stock but Buffett is buying a lot of Apple stock and Apple is a gouging company in my opinion.
