A price control doesn't tell a business what it can or can't sell. It keeps that business from price gouging.
A price control by definition tells what a business what it can and can't sell its product for
So, your solution is to allow government to rescue us from the problem that government helped create, hoping that that government this time around isn't subject to the cronyism that helped caused the problem in the first place?
In the words of the Dread Pirate Roberts: "clearly, you have a dizzying intellect. "

The article confuses me.
They say the meds have gone up, but they state one of the reasons for the price increase are those changing to a high deductible plan so they have to carry more of the cost.

How do you know increased competition wouldn't drive the price down to about $20 a dose?
There are ways to handle it, more competition won't work in the pharmacy industry.
Let them charge $800 a dose but make the company put the extra money into high paying blue collar jobs rather than in the pockets of their wealthy stockholders.
Price controls is option 2.

Yeah, we just got a refill for my daughter and our copay was $20.

This has ZERO to do with "r and d." If "r and d" costs were an issue, they would have charged more at the onset then reduced the price as they recovered their r and d investment. This went in reverse, so it definitely and undeniably and unequivocally was "lets see how much we can force people to pay."
Nah, you're missing the point. The ability to generate absurd margins is the driving force. Recouping their investment in R&D is the bare minimum. If they can charge more, they will. If you remove that ability with price controls you will see future R&D plummet.

OK... but... would have way more trust in President Bush? Or President Trump? Or President Cruz?
Because once you let that power take hold, you ain't taking it back - no matter who the successor is.

If we could start all over, yes. But in the present situation, the current President is way more trustworthy.
Our current market is controlled by manipulative, uber wealthy market manipulators.

Forbes estimates the cost of the actual medicine is about $1 per dosage.
good return right there

AKA government. You just can't see that we don't have a free market, we have protectionism.
Why do you dislike poor people?

Oh the irony.

What are the mystical powers of the industry that doesn't allow the forces of supply, demand and competition to work as it does in every other industry?

I'm clearly the defender of the working poor here.
I want everyone who works to make a living wage.
I don't like the obscene profits Wall St. giants are making now.

Less than 15% of Mylan is owned by insiders or 5% owners. You probably own some in your T. Rowe Price Value Fund or your Vanguard Total Stock Market Index Fund.

No, no it is not. Opening up the door for competition is the only solution.

Let's say pharmacy company A spends $100 million on R&D and currently has a return of $160 million.
If price controls reduced that return to $140 million... you are telling me the company would not still spend $100 million?
Remember in this world you have to spend money to make money, so if they spent less than $100 million on R&D, their new return would be less than $140 million.

That's the annoying thing about the "at cost" claims.
The same is true of literally everything.
Your 700 dollar smart phone is probably being made "at cost" of around 200

Not if you want protectionism and price controls.
If you cared about the poor, you would want government to remove barriers to markets and allow competition to do what it does naturally, lower prices to be more affordable.

Wasn't there an actual example of competition working in the pharmaceutical industry a while back?
Some tool bought a company and jacked the price of this like $5 thing to a couple thousand. Competitor offered it cheap and almost put them out of business?
