My recollections (at least for some of my friends/co-workers) weren't as good as those of most the others posting here.
I was in Sherwood Forrest, but friends in Broadmore rue the day when the area NE of Airline and Florida was changes from an area where runoff was allowed to soak into the soil was converted to Cortana's parking lot. Broadmore subdivision "which never flooded" became a flood zone.

Sizzler use to have a place in Cortana by Sears. When you walked out of Sears into the Mall it was to the right past the area to sit.
Toys by Roys I still got the civil war soldiers that were in the case by the cash register.
Record store was right past Sears on the right.
Saturday evenings that place was packed with teenagers hanging out.
It was an impressive mall for the late 70’s and 80’s.

I got busted shoplifting clothes from the Godchaux department store there back in like 1990.

Will there be a subject thread similar to this but about the Mall of Louisiana soon?

crazy bump i know, but went by the site the other day. Kinda depressing to see what became of a huge part of my childhood.

I never drive over to that side of town. I need to go check it out. I have a lot of fond memories of that place.

Anything left to Cortana besides the Dillards and the Penny's?

Oh it's all closed. I was just wondering what was not yet demolished.

People are overly dramatic on here about BR imo. The vast majority of the southern half of the city is nice.
The thing that is different is that in the 80s much of the northern half was nice too.
So given the events of the last two weeks, you still think people are being overly dramatic when they talk about how far BR has slipped?

I remember a pet store being directly across from Piccadilly. Used to always eat at Piccadilly looking at the dogs for sale in the window.
And the "Everything's $1" had all the Garbage Pail Kid cards I wanted.

Goofball, the only stores left standing are Sears, and Dillard's. However, Sears is in the process of being demolished now, and it seems certain that Dillard's will soon follow.
I have to give the demolition contractor credit. They've wasted no time in getting the buildings razed. If the building contractor can work at a similar rate, Amazon's proposed opening date of August '22 just might come to pass.

They are hauling arse out there, no doubt about it. Everything but the Dillard's is already being turned into crushed gravel right there in the parking lot.
