USA Today

quote:

They shrugged off the pandemic, then their family and friends started dying

quote:

Just over a month ago, the now-rampaging coronavirus pandemic tore through this rural town of 1,000 and surrounding Gove County, killing 20 residents.

quote:

Even today, mask-wearing remains controversial in Gove County, and friendships are being strained as authorities struggle to persuade their neighbors to follow basic public health guidelines, such as avoiding large gatherings.

And the chaser ....

quote:

President Donald Trump won the county with 88% of the vote in November, and many of the residents, including the farmers who raise up corn and sorghum, are deeply skeptical of government and public health orders, often echoing the language Trump has used about mask-wearing and the pandemic's severity.

it has a proven, statistically inflated batting average of .004

Pretty inaccurate for a "rampage" if you ask me.

What about only 50% of people in the black community saying they’ll get a vaccine. I’m sure we’ll see write ups about how they are ignoring public health orders and 98% voted for Biden.

Might document my daily 3 mile corona runs with a go pro and send it in to show how deadly the virus is for everyone not in a nursing home or pushing 40+ BMI’s

And they wonder why people don’t trust the media...I thought the point of news was to report the news, not to sensationalize and mislead and get famous.

The writers at most of these big news companies are one small step above the National enquirer.

Activist "journalism" at its finest. Gove County has 2,600 residents. But look how they carefully word the line:

quote:

Just over a month ago, the now-rampaging coronavirus pandemic tore through this rural town of 1,000 and surrounding Gove County, killing 20 residents

It makes it look like 20 residents out of 1,000 died. But Gove County, Kansas has 2,600 residents. Further, the average of a Kansan is 36 years old, while the average age of a Gove County resident is over 50.

I mean, imagine an entire county where the average age is 50 years old. Of course you're going to have a higher death rate. I bet they have much higher death rates for flu, pneumonia, cancer and heart disease too.

Good news is Warp Speed is going to save this county. The 88% that is.

Also from the article in bold letters:

quote:

Coronavirus claims town historian

quote:

D.A. Crist was Gove County's unofficial historian. Born in 1930 on the family farm, he lived away for a few years after college

The guy was 90. Jesus Christ.

IDK about that town or its masking requirements, but whoever wrote that article should seriously consider purchasing a dental dam.

They are probably science deniers and don't use gender neutral pronouns too.

I weep for journalism.

The writer of that article should be fired, but unfortunately his/her/its editor probably assigned it and helped mold it into the shite-stain it is.
