Regardless of location I think it's a mistake to mandate anything so far-reaching. States/counties should take things on a week-to-week basis because the data is constantly changing. That said, officials should also refrain from making promises of when a potential 're-opening' would occur. The honest answer is you can't be certain. New data comes in and the outlook changes.

I honestly think a lot of these long extensions are just political plays so they can cheer themselves when they open things back up 4 weeks earlier.

Louisiana’s modeling data show the state on course to require 2,500 new hospitalizations a day in the New Orleans area by mid-May, if the public does not adhere to COVID-19 mitigation measures like Gov. Edwards’ Stay at Home order.

There are increasing efforts across the country to understand the impact of social distancing, school closures, stay at home orders and other mitigation measures as we strive to flatten the curve and slow the spread of this virus. What we are seeing is that many Louisianans are taking this seriously. Unfortunately, there are still others who are not, and perhaps it is because we have not fully impressed upon all of our citizens the serious consequences of not staying at home. #lagov

I put this else where but that is from JBE Governor fb page. OMG ... the graph shows strict stay at home for region 1 peaking in JULY. JULY. 2500 hospitalizations in NOLA area??? Where testing is slowing down??? Y'all I'm going to need one of you docs to call in some crazy meds for me if longer than April is announced. HEll maybe even before then ...

Accept it.

People wanted a full on shutdown and now they have got it.

To all the people who laughed at the idea that these governors would keep pushing back the date again and again...

Maybe we should have taken this more seriously in the beginning instead of blowing it off as a ploy to sink trump. Whoops.

Exactly. If we'd shut down nationally a week earlier, we'd be open again by now. And then, we'd have everyone saying that the shutdown was for nothing, because we'd been able to easily control the virus.

One of the craziest things that I’ve heard today. After the 562 deaths in NYC in the past 24hrs, the death toll in NYC from the corona virus has now surpassed the death toll from 9/11. Not sure what to think about that. Read it in a blog written by KFC from barstool sports and his take as a New Yorker (he’s typical a guy who jokes around about things and doesn’t take things too seriously) and hearing a couple of friends from the city who tested positive today is really making feel for that place. Pretty the much becoming the global ground zero for the virus now.

One of the biggest things this has emphasized further into my brain is how many fricking idiots we have leading this country. This has nothing to do with Trump. I’m sure we’d be in the same exact scenario with Hilary.

The fact that they were shouting 3 weeks ago how masks were useless for healthy people, but now the CDC is recommending people wear masks outside of their homes. Just lol

Completely agree. It’s frustrating when we have people we know getting sick (I’m sure most of us know someone by now) and we are all just ready to get back to normalcy as quickly as we can, yet our decision makers almost seem like they are throwing shite at a wall and seeing what sticks.

Kinda like Y2K. I've been in IT for over 20 years. People cite Y2K as overblown. When in fact, billions (trillions?) of dollars were spent preparing for it so that we didn't have widespread issues.

The threat was real, but because we took it seriously and minimized the effects, it's written off.

Idiots? I don't think idiots. Liars and manipulators may be more fair. The masks guidance never made sense from the jump.

It's a tough decision. Look at the assholes and the TP problem. They were lying to protect the PPE. So while I don't feel good about being manipulated, I do get why they did it. They know we're a bunch of hoarding assholes.

Covid 19 link

I've been a chart nerd from the jump, starting with the John Hopkins site.

I'm digging this site. It shows projections for the peaks and when it starts to subside--and for now, it's projecting mid April--tax day.

If it's to be believed, it's going to be a shite show--massive shortages in Hospital Beds, ICU beds, and ventilators.

But at least it something that's projecting an end to this, and about 100k deaths in the US...and based on where we're tracking, this doesn't seem alarmist or sensationalized.

It's supposed to be updated again sometime today (Saturday April 4th).

We'll see how it looks after that's done. Louisiana has already dropped from a projected 97 deaths/day at the peak to 76 deaths/day at peak. We'll see if it will drop some more.

If you said 1% of that in this thread a month and a half ago, you would of been labeled “doom and gloom”.

Europe continues to be a wreck with UK's nCFR moving over 10%. Germany was down as low as 0.2% but has now risen to nCFR 1.4%. Germany is also one of the better countries when it comes to testing.

I guess one piece of low value good information is that the mortality rate on the Worldometer site has dropped for the first time ever.

It's a useless stat because recoveries aren't being even remotely tracked, but earlier it was at 21% of case outcomes was death (vs. recovery). It's back down to 20%.
