Hydroxochlorine

Is toxic when taken for an extended period of time or in high doses.
They have to be careful with what they tell people. Most Dr's are smart but lack common sense like most people. They hear something on TV and take it as law.

Yeah, most doctors get all their instructions from a TV set and just roll with it.

Yes, because there aren’t already FDA approved dosage guidelines....

Most patients I see take 400mg daily for years without toxicity. The long term toxicity is not what worries doctors.

Hydroxychloroquine can have an effect on the heart That isn’t necessarily a toxicity.
Azithromycin can have the same effect.
Combined with the fact that it is believed that the virus can effect the heart tissue in some patients.

Doctors are worried about that triple threat and are wondering if they would do more harm than good by mass prescribing to patients in which 99% would recover anyway.

It’s not the long term toxicity that you normally read about that is a concern.

@HandtevyMD: In January I got very sick (flu like illness but much worse), no sleep for 2 days and almost checked myself into the ED. Had no idea what it was. Today I checked my #COVID19 Antibody status......IgG+ Only (sign of past infection). Mixed emotions. Will retest tomorrow.

That kind of testing will be an important part of opening things back up. The doctor is using a test he got from China, so I would be a bit skeptical of the results. Also, other people trying to develop that kind of test are running into issues b/c they are finding that antibodies from other coronaviruses (there are 4 known endemic human coronaviruses) can cause false positives.

Yep. I was completely behind him during most of this but I've changed my tune. He's dancing around too many issues and said we can relax social distancing when "there are no new infections for a period of time." That's an impossible standard. We'll be out of our offices for over a year and be in bread lines if that's what we're waiting for.

This is what happens when you give a scientist too much power. The whole world worships at their feet and hangs onto their every word until it's too late to reverse course.

Science can be just as dangerous as religion.

Welcome back.

If you haven't been paying attention for the past 100 pages or so, this places oscillates between "all panic/all day" and "poliboard" - I'd recommend a seat belt.

I won’t be staying long.

Scruffy was wrong about a lot of things, but he was right that staying away from this stuff is good for you

So what type patient would you normally try the meds with? Would you go by severity of ct scan or O2 sat?? Just totally curious.

Also for those on vents, are they crushed or do they come in liquid form? As an RD I'm wondering are y'all using TPN or something for nutrition support?

At this point, I'm just waiting for Commander Data to show up one morning and announce that he sufficiently beat the hell out of COVID-19 and is returning home. Can't wait.

You must've heard that from the TV and taken it as law. I read somewhere where that's what doctors do.

Please explain how I can go back to my crowded high rise building while still social distancing? The line for the elevators would be a 30 min wait.
