This is great news! I'm confident you will see improvement each day and you'll be home before you know it. The brown liquid does sound freaky though.

I don't know how you got that from my post. I'm all for more testing and data. We should be testing more and we sure as shite should have been doing it sooner.

If posting a legit news article is the definition of a melt to you, then everyone posting here is melting.

My sincerest apologies. My oxygen saturation has been as low as 88 but since I got here and was put on oxygen the levels have went up. It read out at 93 this morning which put me in a fantastic mood. I had a ct scan done just before lunch and am waiting to talk to the doctor so not sure how they look yet. The chloroquine seemed to help but I switched to hydroxychloroquine and it seems to be working a little better. He is concerned about my oxygen saturation being low for so long that it could actually damage organs but we're moving in the right direction now. The nurse is in my room with a bag of iron to put in my iv. Apparently I have anemia though not sure it is related. The liquid in the bag is brown. It freaks me out that it is going to be dripping into my bloodstream.

Thanks for asking. You guys are the best.

I'll let you slide .. this time

Seriously, when oxygen levels are low, you can feel like crap. Brown liquid will be good for you but yes it can look nasty. And YES update when the CT results are discussed with your provided that you feel like sharing.

Hang tough. As my 19 yo tells me "God's gotchu".

I don't think untested cases are as prevalent as you think. Don't get me wrong, they are definitely out there, but about 90% of the tests in Louisiana are coming back negative. That's over 27,000 negative tests from people with a doctor's order to get tested. Sure, asymptomatic people aren't getting tested as much, but it isn't like people with cold and flu-like symptoms aren't having the test done.

Getting a test done was a pain for at least a week and many people with the symptoms were never tested.

The one key point you are leaving out is that a fever is the only real thing someone can't fake right? I mean every other symptom someone could fake?

So essentially, the only people that we tested were those with high fevers? A good percentage of the "negatives" were likely those with anxiety over getting the disease or other mental health issues.

Patient I've discussed in this thread previously was recently able to be (comparatively) aggressively weaned on the ventilator. I have hope they will be able to be taken off soon and will recover.

I think it is. I've had a hypothesis for awhile now that those with anemia would experience worse respiratory symptoms. It would make sense to me because you already have decreased oxygen capacity but make up for it. If your ability to transfer oxygen to your blood is diminished.. you lose your compensation.

When my daughter first got back from Washington she called and told me she had a fever and was sick. She said she knew she had it blah blah blah. I told her to quit being such a hypochondriac. She legit has severe anxiety and she always thinks she is either sick or is gonna be sick. Always diagnosing herself and us too with all kinds of ailments. The health department refused to give her the covid test even though they just flew in from Washington state. I didn't believe her. Well, here I am stuck in the damn hospital after visiting them and from this day forward I already know she is gonna remind me how she was right this one time every time she comes up with her next sickness. Sucks.

You do make a valid point and I agree.

Of course. She ended up taking a test one week later but they refused her and her husband the test the first time even though they were sick, tested negative for influenza and they just flew in from Washington state after their outbreak. Our government didn't start out on top of things el. They were told to self quarantine for two weeks and come back then if they were still sick.

A lot of people are ignoring that. We're getting people in from New York and Louisiana who are told to isolate, and they aren't doing it.

Might've missed it, but didn't see anyone post Italy's numbers today. Obviously the high # of deaths is still very sad, but the new case # is encouraging if testing is somewhat comparable to what it has been.

quote:
BREAKING: Italy reports 4,050 new cases of coronavirus and 812 new deaths, raising total to 101,739 cases and 11,591 dead

Italy tested 23,329 people today. That's a small increase from what they've been doing. So, yeah, Italy's numbers are good news.

Here's a really good number for you. Italy's outbreak started in Lombardy, which has been, by far, the hardest-hit region in Italy.

Today, for the first time, the total of currently-infected people in Lombardy (positive tests minus deaths and recoveries) dropped, from 25,392 to 25,006.

If you want to see the official Italian government daily reports, you can find them here. (You may need Google Translate. "Tamponi" is tests): LINK

All in favor of shortening thread title to “COVID-19 Thread”

We all know it’s a fricking pandemic now. We get it.

No the title should remain: if only as a FU to the mouth-breathing deniers who talked this down the entire time.
