If a US company could give us the supplies we needed instead of sending them overseas I’d be for it. It’s other countries’ fault for giving China a monopoly on such supplies.

Consumers share the blame. We've been happy to pay cheaper prices for products from overseas and we've put up only token objections.

US deaths are going way up in the next ten days.
Hey, but it’s just old people who were going to die anyway, right? Sad.

Listening to Gov Bullock's announcement right now on the radio.
most of us here are pleased with this announcement. Our resources are limited as they are. Glacier may be closing to the public soon so I am expecting an announcement on it as well.

quote:It has to come from the inside. The Chinese people have to take control of their own government.
How are they going to pay a price? What will be the mechanisms? How bad will the punishment be?
quote:You know what I mean. They fricking disappear people who speak up about things. Like you said, they are semi-barbaric. We seem to agree that this regime shouldn't exist. Why make up shite to argue about?
Yea, fat chance. Nice Whiggish view of history while we're at it. "No place in today's world" - they seem to be doing pretty damn well in today's world.
quote:That's what this is about. The virus and the disease has an official name. To use any other terminology is inaccurate at this point, and the intent of doing so is to drum up fear/hate for the Chinese people and government. Disagree?
Wuhan is a race? Chinese is a race? For starters, be more accurate in your terminology.
quote:Which problem are you referring to?
You know what adds fuel to the fire? Ignoring fricking problems until they're right at your doorstep.
quote:I try, but when I try to correct others in their use of terminology, people like you get all pissy about it!
Be accurate and concise in your terminology.
quote:What started because of this? The virus? Why did the 2009 swine flu blow up here? Or do you blame that one on Mexico? And the Spanish flu probably blew up here first too. Lack of hygiene definitely plays a role, but these things can and do happen anywhere. It's just that when it starts in a place like China, it's so easy to get mad at poor people for being poor. And it's so easy to get other people mad at them, too, by doing things like insisting on calling it the "Chinese virus" or whatever.
This started because aspects of - and large territories within - Chinese society are semi-barbaric even after forty years of rapid development
It's just a form of elementary school name-calling. It's a way to forgive our own failure to be prepared for such an event, and place blame on someone else. It's pathetic and counter-productive.
quote:What the frick am I shying away from?
and the Chinese government helped cover it up, and most of the country is perfectly fine with their regime. Don't shy away from it.
And you know why most of the country is "perfectly fine" with their regime? Because they don't know any better. They are fed propaganda all day every day. They think they are the pinnacle of modern society.
So what exactly do you think calling it the Chinese virus is supposed to accomplish? Because from where I'm standing, it can only really do two things. One, if enough people buy into the fear/hate, the rest of the world will change their buying habits and the poorest people in China will become even more poor. So they'll just have to keep eating bats or whatever the frick else they can afford. And two, the Chinese government can use it as another method of control over the people. Few things are more powerful than the us-vs-them mentality to rally the troops.

Hopefully some of the docs will chime in but the Rapivab seems like an odd choice as there has been zero evidence it is effective with COVID-19. It is always a bit touchy when patients try to tell the doctor how to treat them, but it might at least be worth asking what the plan is for other treatments including some of the other drugs that have shown more promise.
I think they are using it where I work or at least I heard some discussion about it.
They are being very agressive with Covid patients here, if you are on over 6L of oxygen nasal canula you get intubated.

Well fellas, plaquenil might not be the answer we’d hoped for. Quote from Doc when asked if it’s working “nothing we’ve don’t this week seems to be working”.

Sounds like the ChiComs are playing around with all of the results of their studies:

So if it didn’t do anything, why did the company in Wuhan file for exclusive use of it back in mid January?
They obviously knew there was something there...

frick, that sounds terrible. Somebody please spin this so that it doesn't sound as bad.
In any case, the U.S as a whole is in for some dark days coming up. Hoping we can come out on the other side of this thing with as minimal death as possible.
