Thibodaux mayor just told a family member of mine that this weekend will start a 2 week shutdown.

I’m old enough to remember when this thread was limited to Wuhan citizens dying in the streets.

My aunt's cousin told my brother's friend's wife that this sounds like BS

We aren't having trouble testing people we need to test, anymore.

I have no idea about "the curve" here just yet; we arent getting flooded with positives, so I guess that's a good sign

Even if it was. we are talking about an incredibly small percentage of the population that is infected.

People are acting like every other person is infected because of the mass media hysteria. This is actually affecting a microscopic amount of people in the world's population.

This is basically true. Even in Wuhan, we only say 0.5% of the population infected. If the risk of death is 1% of those infected, then the average person's risk of death from COVID-19 this year is less than 1 in 20,000, because we are not going to get nearly as bad as Wuhan or Italy.

For perspective, the risk of dying in a car accident this year is 1 in 9,000.

So, individual risk is incredibly low. But, of course, societal risk is great, because of the danger to our hospitals and healthcare systems.

So, staying at home is something that people need to do because it's their patriotic duty to their fellow Americans, not because they have a high risk of dying.

But people are naturally selfish. That's why government has to step in and enforce social distancing, because most people won't do it on their own. And that's also why I didn't mind if some people were overly scared last week -- people needed to be scared enough to stay at home.

Medic is a good poster ... I would question the info that he's been given but I don't think he'd post shite that he made up to mess with people.

You posted yesterday that your Asian wife hadn't experienced any racism due to the coronavirus outbreak therefore it doesn't exist.

Granted, I don't think it's happening either, but I don't think you should be the one making fun of him for his info.

What is a full shutdown going to do other than make people freak out more? Lots of offices are already shutdown and people are working from home. The grocery stores will still be open and that's where the crowds are.

I actually didn't say this at all.

Why do you people make up stuff?

It's easy to verify what I said considering this is a forum and my post was not edited.

Here is what I said:

quote:

She said Chinese people in the USA are experience hatred and racism. Some may but my wife is Chinese and she has not experienced the first bit of racism over this.

I even said some MAY be experiencing it but my wife has yet to.

Now, do you want to try a different "gotcha" since this one was built on a lie?

You aren't the type to include that piece as a "LOOK AT ME I HAVE A WIFE" type deal so the implication is pretty clear.

Regardless, the point being, medic's second hand info isn't any worse than that post of yours, so why shite on him? It's not unreasonable to think thibodeaux will do that since it seems every small town in South LA is trying to flex whatever authority they have right now. We got a curfew in bustling New Iberia now ffs.

Yea it's pretty clear despite my exact words were the opposite. What a ridiculous argument. You are better than resorting to that BS.

BBC reporter in Bejing reporting Wuhan is going to allow people to go out.

Who knows how accurate China's numbers are but that is still positive IMO.

The key being "need". I know we are able to test those that have legit reasons for being tested.

Found out yesterday that all the homeless shelters in our area have now closed. They can't properly isolate those with symptoms so have just closed completely. So we are watching out for that cause we anticipate some of them are gonna surge our ERs looking for shelter/treatment/etc.

Updated Louisiana Health Alert. Basically state testing remains mostly for the sick. Private labs will have more of the milder cases. Are we getting both results from Edwards?

“Testing at the State Laboratory

Only the following patients are appropriate for COVID-19 testing at the State Laboratory at this time:

Hospitalized patients with a severe respiratory illness with no other known cause.

Suspect outbreak of COVID-19 among associated individuals with recent onset of similar fever and lower respiratory symptoms.

Recent fever and lower respiratory symptoms in a healthcare worker with direct contact to a laboratory-confirmed COVID-19 case.

Suspect COVID-19 in a patient associated with a high-risk exposure setting such as a long-term care facility or a correctional facility.

Suspect COVID-19 in a homeless patient.”

I think they're full of shite and trying to make sure they can swoop up whatever market share in whatever industry has become available while the rest of the world is on the skids. The chinese would have no problem whacking a big portion of the world population for a better financial foothold.
