Do you see anything distinctive on chest films of patients with ARDS?

No new community infections. The new ones came from out of the country and traveled in.

I absolutely would, but not because of how strong the data are.
We basically have nothing and throwing shite against a wall to see if it sticks, if the options are try some drug that may or may not work or die, I will opt for the former.

it's hard to distinguish ARDS from imaging because their lungs are already fricked up from the pneumonia; you basically have to use ABGs and whether or not you have to change vent settings to improve oxygenation. For example, if a patient's PO2/FiO2 ratio is <150 and we keep having to go up on PEEP, they're probably in ARDS.
from a lab marker perspective, it just acts like a boring regular viral pneumonia. Procalcitonin undetectably low or very low, slighly lymphopenic but WBC generally WNL.
Significant leukocytosis, if not caused by steroids, should suggest other things going on. It doesn't rule out COVID but it does suggest something else is going on, too.

I would think we are likely to have the same kind of "curve" as Italy, given the social nature of our society here in LA.

Even if it was. we are talking about an incredibly small percentage of the population that is infected.
People are acting like every other person is infected because of the mass media hysteria. This is actually affecting a microscopic amount of people in the world's population.

We went to social distancing and advanced measures long before the Italians did on the same scale. We will be fine.
