Acton just concluded the press conference by saying the worst case scenario is 40-70% of Ohioans (4.7-8.2 million) may end up carrying the virus.
It looks like her explanation is that evidence of community spread in multiple locations indicates 1% of the population has it. We only have 5 confirmed cases but they are in different counties and several have not been traceable. That does seem high, but I've seen models from various epidemiologists that are all over the place. Seems possible, but who knows.
She also said the models show things peaking in late April, early May.

When they say peaking, do they mean the rate of new daily cases will be highest some day in April or May, or TOTAL cases will peak in April?

It seems that states are not updating their testing protocols with the updated CDC guidelines.
Priorities for testing may include:
Hospitalized patients who have signs and symptoms compatible with COVID-19 in order to inform decisions related to infection control.
Other symptomatic individuals such as, older adults and individuals with chronic medical conditions and/or an immunocompromised state that may put them at higher risk for poor outcomes (e.g., diabetes, heart disease, receiving immunosuppressive medications, chronic lung disease, chronic kidney disease).
Any persons including healthcare personnel2, who within 14 days of symptom onset had close contact3 with a suspect or laboratory-confirmed4 COVID-19 patient, or who have a history of travel from affected geographic areas5 (see below) within 14 days of their symptom onset.

Who knew the OT has determined the fate of the nation?

Models indicate the number of cases could peak in late April to mid-May, she said.
That's all the article mentions. The local news makes no mention of this at all when covering the press conference.

At this point the most important test may be the antibody test that Taiwan(?) announced a couple days ago. Start running those to find how many people have already developed an immune response, and then run that through a model and announce 100K, for example, have already recovered without complications. That might help derail this negative news cycle that dominates the airwaves and is potentially about to do real harm.

Why am I not surprised you'd be one of the people with your head stuck directly in the sand?

Several posters immediately said those numbers were ridiculous.
Once you show you are willing to give things up for “fear” or “safety”, it’s a slow bleed

Now that everything is getting cancelled people will be saying see I told you this was no big deal in 2 months... even though the cancellations might be the reason it doesn’t become a big deal.
No win situation

If it turns out to be not that bad it’s because it’s not that bad. Our approach has been half assed and limp dicked to where it isn’t doing much

Our health director Amy Acton and governor Mike Dewine have handles really well from the beginning in mu opinion. They have been pretty blunt with us from the beginning. Have no idea where she is getting her numbers from but if there is 100,000 infected in Ohio and our Hospitals dont appear to over run with people isn't that a good thing?
