Global society would collapse in that case. Social media and the media helps induce and maintain panic significantly

If you think Italy is a 3rd world or anywhere close, you haven’t been to an actual 3rd world country. Their healthcare is certainly much better than any 3rd world shithole

And Lombardy in particular - where the outbreak originated in Italy - is one of the richest and nicest regions in all of Europe. Definitely not 3rd world.

One of the reasons Italy has been reacting so strongly is to prevent the disease from becoming a bad epidemic in the South, as southern Italy definitely has some areas that ain't too far off the 3rd world.

It's basically a hurricane thread without all the pictures.

A lot of people don't understand Italy. North to south is wealthier and more industrial to poorer and more and more rural. There's a reason la cosa nostra is from southern Italy.

Social media and the media have been evil during this virus.

These statements are a bit contradictory, no? How do you expect people to get tested if they don’t go to the doctor?

Drive thru testing needs to become a thing. Need to keep this population away from vulnerable populations that will be in ER and urgent cares.

Mobile testing units are a thing that exists.

That is the way to go.

Apparently some hospitals are already offering this. Not for anyone, but for those who have been issued an order by provider. It was mentioned in the paper today but limited details.

Yep, CDC isn’t sending tests. Hospitals are being told to act if its a positive test.

~1000 cases in a country of 340 million.

A virus that will only effect maybe 20% of people who get it.

This shite is unbelievable.

How many cases will it take for you to pull your head out of your arse?

5000 next week?

20000 in three week?

More?

Go to Reddit to spew your “it’s only a cold” statements. This board has been tame and not been much actual hysteria. Reddit is on full on we’re all fricked mode. Which in turn makes even more people scared. Meanwhile this is a small site.

Is this true?

80% are asymptomatic?

Wish you could actually ban certain posters that offer nothing and just clutter the thread with rhetoric. At this point, it’s just one thing after another about proving his point and beating his chest.

At this point mild cases should stay home. We missed an early testing window to trace contacts with aggressive testing.

Most of the diagnoses are coming from serious hospitalized cases right now. Read the accounts of a lot of the patients. They said they went in with bad flu symptoms and were told to go home because they had the flu and couldn’t be tested. It wasn’t until they came back worse that they were admitted and tested

descending slowly into anarchy over a respiratory virus that is similar to the flu

imagine if it were something that was actually dangerous

Difference being how contagious it is and the lack of vaccine available.

There will be a quite a few old people and immune compromised people that will get this and die and there isn't much anyone can do to stop it or treat it for those folks.

Most of us will be fine, just feel like shite for a week. But I do care about the vulnerable and it's gotta be scary to be them.

Well politics are definitely being brought up a lot in those threads.

But Reddit’s panic reaction is typical of the Internet and social media. They’re really not making things better.
