You think it’s going to get up to 60 million just this year?
And 2009 handled it without issue or hysteria like this. I’d assume it could handle even more since there was never any news about hospitals about to collapse with patients out the door. That’s all I’m saying.

A retirement home in New Orleans has a presumptive positive case according to Nola.

What?
You said, and correct me if I’m wrong... “why are you worried about the system being over run. This is just like the swine flu. The swine flu had 310,000 hospitalizations and the system wasn’t over run”
Then you agreed that the hospitalization rate of swine flu was 0.5% of cases and that a significant vulnerable part of the population was immune to swine.
Stop the mental gymnastics

Fwd:
The new NCP coronavirus may not show sign of infection for many days, how can one know if he/she is infected. By the time they have fever and/or cough and goes to the hospital, the lungs is usually 50 % Fibrosis and it's too late!
Taiwan experts provide a simple self-check that we can do every morning:
Take a deep breath and hold your breath for more than 10 seconds. If you complete it successfully without coughing, without discomfort, stuffiness or tightness, etc.,it proves there is no fibrosis in the lungs, basically indicating no infection.
In critical times, please self-check every morning in an environment with clean air.
SERIOUS EXCELLENT ADVICE by Japanese Doctors treating COVID-19 cases:
Everyone should ensure your mouth & throat is moist, never DRY. Take a few sips of water every 15 mins at least. WHY?
Even if the virus gets into your mouth...drinking water or other liquids will WASH them down through your esophagus into the stomach. Once there in tummy...your stomach ACID will kill all the virus. If you don't drink enough water more regularly....the virus can enter your windpipes and into the LUNGS. That's very dangerous.
Pls send and share with family, friends and everyone.””

I doubt it gets that high, but once it hits say 1 million in the US, you will see drastic measures across the country. Semi-mandatory work from home, school closures, no public events, etc.
If you assume there is somewhere around 5k cases in the US, it takes 13 doubling cycles to get to 40 million. If each cycle takes 6 days (current estimates) that would be 40 million by the end of May/early June.
Do I think we will get there that quickly? No I doubt that, but you could see 10 million infected in that time and 50k deaths if we all go about business as usual and don't take proactive steps.

The key is the totals. I would think that’s apparent. We dealt with an extra 300k hospitalizations in 2009 for a virus that started here and eventually impacted 60 million in a years time. Being able to handle that influx is good not bad right? If you think we Get to 60 million cases of covid by January of next year, I can see why you’d worry.

Checking coughing helps, but I feel like every time you hold your breath for ten seconds there’s some level of “discomfort.” That’s not super useful without specifics.
The water thing is though

This is a dumb question but is it possible to have the virus enter your system but not cause any infection/illness at all?

China is still under 100,000 confirmed cases and will soon start allowing people to resume normal life.
Stop with these predictions of tens of millions.

Yes. It’s called being asymptotic.

Ohio may be the next state to impose restrictions.

You can't use China data unless it's bad. No good data from China is allowed in this thread.

This is just like the swine flu.
I’m using our past, most recent response as a comparison. It can give some insight into what we can and can’t handle and how we handle it.

and why would the virus behave differently here than it is there? Italy just got it sooner than we did. These numbers are coming to us.
