That's what I am wondering. If we have a bunch of people with the virus, but not that many critical does that make this better or worse?

I believe we have a bunch of people with it, or we will. I also think we will have a lower death rate from it than most. We will see, my fear is we do have a bunch of people that need advanced medical care and we aren't capable of getting em all cared for.

I think widespread testing would be wise, the drive thru thing makes good sense, especially for those that care for the elderly, or have contact with a population that is more at risk.

But if you arent coughing/sneezing in the air, coughing/sneezing into your hand and rubbing it on surfaces/people, its harder to transmit it

Is this based on something you read, or your antedoctal feelings based on flu?

CFR should be determined by case resolution percentages, but that takes too long for the 24H news cycle world we are in so they do this stupid deaths/cases metric.

This can be said for damn near anything now a days, the rush to shock and be first is a terrible thing.

23% of Italy’s population is over the age of 65. And the average age of death by this virus in Italy? 81.

Don't know. South Korea's revised mortality rate is up from 0.6~ to 0.9~ today.

I think it's more likely China lied about their numbers and we're seeing the true impact of the virus when hospitals are overrun in Italy. South Korea is an example of mortality when the virus is somewhat prevalent but health services can handle it.

Partly but the man coordinating ICUs in the epicenter is saying he is seeing an increase in younger folks needing serious care the last 5-7 days.

Most people have agreed that the data has been shite which is why it’s been so easy to argue one side or the other.

Right as one nameless poster was dramatically voicing concern for his family at home, the CDC was releasing information that this is very mild for younger people in the 0-20 range to point where it’s even less deadly than the flu for that demographic.

81,000 confirmed cases in China as of today seems pretty low for the rate this virus is spreading. It has bounced from 60,000 to 80,000 in one month in a country with population of 1.39 billion people. I know people question the actual number of confirmed cases coming out of China but even if that number is doubled to 160,000 cases, you are talking about 0.00012% of the population infected at the initial outbreak location.

Ok great. Once again, what are you doing then? I assume since my measures are so poor, you are not going around anyone and are staying home

We can start by being honest.

When you say it’s just the flu or not even as bad as the flu, which you have said. For a lot of uneducated people that means they don’t give a frick about it. They will be going all around in public when they are symptomatic. I see it all the time.

It doesn’t need to be compared to anything. It’s a novel virus.

Yeah which may be contributing to the deaths. They’re giving the younger people the actual care bc they have a better rate of survival with care and basically just making the over 70 crowd comfortable

Its based on evrything I have ever read with any virus

You have to contract it in someway

If an asymptomatic person with the virus is merely next to you, it isnt going to jump from their body to yours miraculously

Someone coughing sneezing next to you with the virus gives you a far greater chance to contract it

You cant possibly be needing a link for that, right?

It doesn’t have to be coughing or sneezing. Breathing can spread this too if you’re close enough.

A normal interaction? Not close enough. Parades, bars, festivals, sporting events....THATS when you’re forced to get so close to people that mere breathing can spread the disease

and the reason why social distancing is being employed. The majority of people are going to be exposed to the virus. Slowing down this exposure is key to allow the healthcare system to be able to handle the cases.

Damn, sucks that they canceled what looked to be the most fun pandemic conference of all time!
