So the first case reported in the US was actually 10 days ahead of the first case in Italy. Now, if you want to say that the US is lagging behind because of very low testing numbers, I won't disagree there. I'm sure it's 100% true that there are more people infected/sick than have been actually diagnosed and tested

However, what I am also 100% sure of if that there was anywhere in this country that was experiencing the sort of apocalyptic conditions that China and apparently Italy are experiencing, we would absolutely know about it via social media.

Which to me means that so far, it has either not spread as rapidly or at the same growth rate that other countries have experienced, despite it being present for at least the same amount of time if not longer. Or if it is, it's being absorbed by our medical facilities better across the country

Time will tell, but it's disingenuous to believe that the US will become Italy just because of some calendar math.

People need to stop burying their heads in the sand.

You absolutely do not know this is true. Why are you singling out italy?

This "hospital collapse" hasn't happened in south korea, japan, etc.

Italy is not a good nation for this to happen to. The people are dumb, old, and lazy. the culture there is notoriously sedentary and lethargic. Very little work ethic and striving to be the best.

Will you never post again if we don’t reach the same number of deaths as Italy within the same time frame?

Wait, we actually had cases before Italy.

Scruffy already won that bet.

Italy is one giant nursing home. We are not.

Exactly, the US could be like Germany, South Korea, Hong Kong, etc.

COVID-19 testing is now available through Quest and LabCorp.

On the weekly COVId-19 conference call I was on today with Maricopa County public health...no one could give us information on cost of test and if it was covered by insurance/Medicaid/Medicare.

All we were told is that cases that don’t fit state criteria could be tested this way(just needed a provider order) but that turnaround times were 5 days or so cause they send the labs to Labcorp and Quest HQ

I mean it’s to the point where if you post anything factual and positive it’s downvoted.

Completely mind bottling.

Nurse, a lab Corp rep was on CNBC this am and said they were testing but when asked about cost and coverage said that CMS was “working on it”.

It isn’t chicken little. It is more of a problem than just deaths. They have said they have overwhelmed hospitals. Educate yourself

Countries/regions where the virus HASN'T overwhelmed hospitals

SK
Japan
Hong Kong
Singapore

Where it has

Iran
Italy
China

Why assume America will be the latter and not the former?

Which seems isolated to Italy where it has hit pockets of really old people at 80+ needing ICU care. It’s an outlier. And honestly, if a population of 16 million (Lombardy) can’t handle a few thousand cases of a virus, that’s an issue by itself. Maybe it’s healthcare wasn’t as good as people thought it was.

From what I gather, Italy has a really shitty and underfunded ICU system.
